I think there's a decent chance this isn't offscreened. This fight seems to parallel Teach vs Ace, and that was very important in hyping up Teach.

If Teach is going to be the villain of the next arc, he needs to prove he's as big of a threat, if not a greater, than Kaido. Currently, post skip Teach barely has any feats. Since Law has fought both big mom and kaido, this is actually the perfect opportunity to hype up Blackbeard and scale him to kaido and big mom.

I wouldn't be surprised if law gets captured or dies, there needs to be more hype for bb before the strawhats go up against his crew, and killing off law or some of his crew seems a whole lot more likely than some of the theories about bb killing shanks. Bb wants op dfs so taking laws would make sense. Plus the I think the final race to laughtale will be between luffy, shanks, and Buggy, after bb is defeated
