He seems to have been a rebel prior to this point. Because in Chapter 0 he still hid himself under a cloak at Roger's execution, which was before Ohara.
vegapunk got an unfair advantage. would he be the smartest man in the world still without those books? also him calling the fruit a failur makes sense now. he couldn't i guess completely recreate df like the books laid out i bet
