King lost to GB because he was recovering 
When Aramaki attacked King, his mental state was as shattered as his entire world.
He lost his home and his only defender, Kaido. Recovering from grief takes more time than recovering from physical injuries.
Because GB can drain his energy. The only other way to defeat him without ACoC.
King wasn't a dumbass. He was scared Zoro could hurt him in flame mode so he entered speed mode and created distance hoping it would allow him to evade Zoro's attacks. Unfortunately, he was wrong.
We see King blocking all of Zoro attacks and he's in flame mode.
Zoro realized that and ask King if he is scared of his power.

Fraudo is a meathead war monger that lived and was defeated pathetically,and died empty handed. People should stop pretendind that King of Fertilizers is any better than him,because he is only Fraudo's shoelicker.
King of Fertilizers is about "I belong to a race who thought to be untouchable gods because of it's special attributes,and after the World Government prove that this is not true,i become a tyrant just like they are! Everyone should feel bad for me!"
This is not a badass character. It's a loser living in self-pityness.
