Character Discussion What is the purpose of Shanks and RHPs in the story?

#41
Tf can Shanks be a hype tool when we never saw him fight :luffywat:?
Its fandom desperation at this point to invalidate one Yonko and prop the other

If anything, it suggests a larger conflict with Luffy, Shanks and BB. You have all 3 gunning for One Piece in their own ways, suggesting a big moment either before or during LT with both factions. Kid technically too but I have a feeling something will stop him similar to Law's situation rn (either fights Luffy or someone else and loses.)

Edit: Imo though, while either BB or Shanks falls on LT, the other will take advantage and take the One Piece (for its intended purpose) before Luffy is actually PK

Shanks in not evil guys :seriously: It was confirmed by oda nor he would be a serious challenge to Luffy. They can have a match tourney style
Literally never confirmed by Oda lmao. And nobody is saying hes evil.

The only thing he stated was he has his own plans for the new era. That already means its not aligned with Luffy's.

What proof? Oda literally said that shanks character is clear from film red where he is protecting every one lmfao. You can't cope with the fact that shanks won't be a villain

You absolutely missed the point of that interview lmfao. It was in the context of the film, and hes an ally, not the villain. And the conversation was talking about who he "is", and he's tied to the WG family royalty, which the film actually illustrates.

Again, nobody is saying hes evil. Film Red isnt about finding one piece or establishing a new era. Nobody knows what Shanks wants

Edit: This is why hindsight bias is a bitch, because the marketing for Film Red, was 150% painting Shanks as villainous before people assumed it would directly be Uta. This had people questioning his role and intent, and even had people making bold claims like the Luffy/Shanks reunion will happen in a movie and they'll fight here instead of in the manga.

The comments in this interview are strictly about the film and his role in the story, where yes, hes an ally and Uta is the villain, which he himself technically creates.

If Film Red Shanks role is not an obvious hint to the future manga Shanks role, then Oda is a fraud to make such movies just for money grabbing and massive disrespect towards Wano ending......

Both are on the top of the hierarchy. So yes, defeating all of them would give the world a clear message

Now is BM already gone.Nothing in this Manga proves that hes gonna fight Shanks. In fact, the story supports the idea Shanks will die
And yet he says it again in Wano

And im tired of explaining this. If you cant understand how obvious it is, then thats on you.
Or they ARE antagonists. Not straight up evil villains mind you but people that will get in Luffy's way eventually. Go back and read every Shanks scene since 902/903. Something is definitely off about the character. Oda has made these subtle things noticeable that allowed peoppe to guess Kanjuro's betrayal.

Honestly, it kind of baffles me that people think Shanks vs BB is this massively set up thing, moreso than Luffy and Shanks.

Lets go back to where this shit originates:

1. Luffy's intent to actually fight Shanks:

2. His reaction to Luffy's 1.5 billion bounty. You cant tell me the author draws straight up allies this way without any actual sense of competition or ulterior motive:

3. His clear connection to the WG. In any context, it does not make sense. If its about BB, why even talk to the WG? Him being a threat to WG stability is just as bad as Luffy. Both lead to its destruction. Hell, finding One Piece is exactly what they are trying to prevent:

4. This scene (and the scene before it about Shanks blatantly stating he'll attack Barto)....

5. Not to mention the now known facts that he's likely a WG Royal Family member ("Fearland Family"l, was found on God Valley (where CDs used to also reside), has a weird scene with Roger where hes crying over something and we are never told (supporting hidden motivation), AND the fact that Oda has stated Shanks has his own plans for the New Era.

Im not saying BB and Shanks arent inherently tied together, but it makes little sense at this point for BB to repeat the same exact shit with Shanks that hes doing with Law, or if even theres this idea that BB would win considering every ridiculously notable feat Shanks has in this story. I could post 5 more examples of that if need be.

Tldr: People are fucking in denial about how strong Shanks is and what he represents in this story to the MC. There is very clear endgame motifs thrown around with the character that people are blatantly missing.

"Death flags" lmao, where

They are not comparable??
Oda make the Og Yonko to be rivals to each other for reason.
Only Shanks fanboy think Shanks is supreme being standing clear cut above Kaido and Linlin lol.
No, they arent. Shanks is literally on the ToC every volume. He's highly central to the MCs personal goals. BM was so tertiary that she was defeated by Law and Kid. She didnt even get the same focus as Kaido did.

How anybody does not comprehend this is beyond me. Im literally providing full on examples where:

- Luffy has directly stated he wants to fight Shanks ("as long as Shanks isnt first")

- Moments where Shanks gives odd and intentional looks of ulterior motives behind Luffy's accomplishments (see chapter 903)

- Moments where Shanks has the odd fucking role of talking WG members and has the respect of Sengoku

- Moments where he blatantly states hes going after Bartolomeo for burning his flag and now going after One Piece.

The fuck do you think all of this actually means lmao? That he and Luffy shake hands and he fucks off into the sunset?

Wano is full of plotholes and shit talk

Again,BM was not defeated by Luffy.Hows that statement not outdated?
Ah yes, the classic: when I give you literal examples in the manga, blame the mangaka, not yourself for silly ass expectations like "Shanks death flags" when you cant even give me an example.

And Luffy didnt even know BM was in Wano when he made this statement. Is he clairvoiyant? Are his allies not supposed to help? Does BM have actual personal ties to the MC? Imagine thinking BM and Kaido are even remotely treated on the same order of BB or even Shanks

Tf you mean......
Yes Oda loves Shanks everyone knows, but he isn't a blind fanboy to the point he would crush his own story power scaling.

You only talk about Shanks having special connection with Luffy.
But still there is ZERO evidence showing Shanks is portrayed higher than his other fellow Yonko.
The manga written by Oda mentioning the crew being the "most balance crew" make it even more unbelievable to think Shanks is higher than Kaido or Linlin individually.
C3 Admirals are never portrayed to be tiers apart
So as OG Yonko ........

Which fandom shows Shanks less love? You mean the clowns in this forum? That like 5-10 people circle jerking and patting each others back. Shanks just won a strongest poll in Japan beating freaking Roger.

Regarding their role, the obvious one is getting beaten by Blackbeard. But that would be too predictable and I am starting to think Shanks' crew might be used to fight a different faction of antagonists.
Which faction are you thinking about?

Where, in any of my comments, did i say Shanks>Kaido/BM lmao?

One Piece doesnt have powerscaling nonsense like this. The author draws whatever the fuck he wants based on circumstantial powersets. This is like saying Lucci could have defeated broken ass Enel just because he was the next arc villain. The only reason Luffy won that fight was because he was rubber.

Imagine taking powerscaling so seriously that you cant even imagine what other antagonists could pose as threats to Luffy in different ways, even if they are also Yonko or Admirals after Kaido.

And just to entertain your thought process, the manga has had Shanks stop Kaido before the paramount war and stop Akainu a day later, then also be included in this:

But sure sure, the manga isnt insinuating anything here and i just cant read.

Funny how you guys can make that exception for Blackbeard (for nothing but the possibility of him being the final antagonist), but for Shanks its an absolute no no lmao
