Novel Official Wano Rewrite Thread

#1
Wano has been a very polarizing arc in this community. Some of you like it but think things could be done better, many are disappointed on how it went, and a lot of you guys hate it. In this thread we are starting a project for a community wide Wano rewrite, here we will discuss things we will change about the arc. Examples of ideas we could discuss are;

  • 5 Act structure.
  • Beast Pirates DFs.
  • Doflamingo in Wano?
  • Ororchi's role in Wano.
  • Big Mom Pirates in Wano.
As we go along we are planning on creating more threads where we can dig into the ideas with more detail. Right now feel free to use this thread to drop your ideas

Beast Pirates DFs.
I wouldve given whos who a megalodon fruit for the matchup with jinbe also making him part fish

I would also give page one a velociraptor fruit to be less like drakes and also a smaller demeanor than the rest of the tobiroppo while also being the big brother of ulti while also giving usopp some sort of smoke screen pop green and have a moment of page one countering with velociraptors could see in the dark aka through the smoke

Make Orochi stronger and strategically smarter. Make Doflamingo returns in Wano as Yamato's opponent.
I would just erase Orochi, make the Shogun and actual competent Samurai who sided with Kaido out of his distate for Oden or Kozuki's idolization in Wano. I would also make him Zoro opponent for the Wano part of the overall arc(that would go into my whole splitting the arc in 2 idea though)

Also if Doffy comes back he's 100% fighting Law. I'm thinking of introducing him as a wild card that Kaido uses once he hears his gifters have been tamed by Tama

Initially, I would have put Kyoshiro as the Shogun and Zoro's opponent. Him turns out to be Denjiro was one of the biggest bullshit in Wano, but Law vs Doflamingo is nice too.

Big Mom Pirates in Wano.
I'd have Big Mom act more smarter(Have her doubt the alliance much more,Leaves Wano when She thinks Kaido will lose), Also have Smoothie and Perospero help on the live floor

Killer vs Smoothie
X Drake joins rooftop then helps Kid and Law with Big Mom

Perespero vs Carrot/Chopper

Big Mom is a awakened user(Bigger Mom with some changes)

Ororchi's role in Wano
Change or replace him with a evil samurai
Kills other samurai (Ushimaru)(Kawamatsu and Denjiro)
Zoro's act 1 opponent (Hiyori defeats him in Act 3)
Hiyori inherits Odens skills(Momo has Kaido fruit and Oden body, Hiyori has oden sword skills)

Remove Big Mom from Wano completely

Wasn't a great idea to begin with

When it comes to Orochi I have 0 problems with him being weak

He should've been a bit more strategic though

There's nothing wrong with a weak antagonist if they have strengths in other areas

Give Kawamatsu’s introduction at Udon to Yamato to make her more menacing and actually give time to build up her personality and motives, which also leaves time for her to progress into wanting to stay at wano instead of it happening so abruptly

or just cut Yamato out entirely

Wano wasn't atrocious but wasn't that bad either. I'd have tried to make the number of chapters a bit less like the sumo fight wasn't even necessary tbh. The Udon Prison could have had a faster pacing. I'd give Luffy a better way to train than hit the iron wall. I'd have Zoro struggle with Enma a little more and then win over it. There are a number of plots not concluded here which I am sure will be brought up later like Zoro and the skeleton. Ryuma's grave. I think Ussopp did absolutely nothing. I'd have him do something other than cower up and run away from Page 1 and Ulti. Big Mom negging P1 and making Ussopp ridiculous is one thing I didn't like. I'd have made Kaido vs Luffy Nika finale a bit more dramatic. I'd have made Bajrang Gun look like a total nuke with shockwaves and everyone on the isle tremble with it. Perfect move to send off the mightiest Kaido.

I'd have the strawhats and other stall Kaido for sometime and when Kaido is about to destroy everyone then Awakened Luffy gives giant CoC burst alerting Kaido then Luffy drags Kaido up. I'd not have wasted 3 chapters for BJRGun to land. I'd have made Big Mom more relevant. Maybe sneak attack by CP-0 and then two awakened attacks to finish her. I don't know why BMP were negged by the waterfall. Whats the point of them coming and running away from the waterfall? :kobeha:. I think Orochi should have been executed like Oden. This is one thing that sucked ass.

No Big Mom.
Stronger Orochi version.
Fake emotional fake deaths scenario removed.
No Yamato.
Less panel with akaza samurai. So many unnecessary panels.
More pay attention to strawhats would be core of the wano for me. As a result, we must have read pure strawhats vs beats pirates.
Also , if i introduced one villain as a crucial and strongest in the verse , probably he took few important character life at least. Also , i did not make bullshit about it .Like oden and luffy distracted by somebody and kaido won is very bad depiction.
Zoro should have visited ryuma. More kaido flashback.
actually , when we go to start , if yamato and black mom were absent in the wano , the others can easily be solved.

  • 5 Act structure.
  • Beast Pirates DFs.
  • Doflamingo in Wano?
  • Ororchi's role in Wano.
  • Big Mom Pirates in Wano.
Off the top of my head...

The Wano Arc is less about the Strawhats and more about Wano, the people, the country and the invaders. The Strawhats are the dominant PoV but I would not shy away to give a few consecutive chapters to the antagonists.

More subplots. Wano is pretty bare when it comes to plots for both its size and for other One Piece Arcs (maybe Oda got cold feet after managing Dressrosa's many subplots). There's too many characters who just exist for no real purpose other than losing. Give them something, no matter how small.

For example, something like...
  • In Act 1, Hawkins makes his ambitions known to the reader. He wants to ascend the ladder of the Beast Pirates Hierarchy. He scopes out the potential of an alliance with Jack the Drought over getting help in making a Tobi Roppo disappear.
  • In Act 2, Hawkins petitions King the Wildfire to replace Page1 after he's weakened and failed to catch "O'Soba Mask". X Drake, being a marine at his core, defends Page1 and says he'll take up any challenge in the younger Tobi Roppo's stead until he's made a full recovery.
  • In Act 3, Hawkins is made apart of the plot to take down X Drake solely because his ambition is that well known to the Beast Pirates, he's immediately made the 6th Tobi Roppo after X Drake is outed.
  • During the raid, Hawkins is able to bind several important characters (Kidd, Killer, X Drake, Denjiro, etc) to his fruit during the chaos of the brawl.
  • Brook ends up being the one to fight Hawkins, sharing superficial similar themes (Voodoo, Skeleton, etc) and Brook's Soul Fruit allows him to free those Hawkins' has linked up with via his fruit.
  • Hawkins' defeat gives Brook a big moment of personally turning the tides of several key fights.

Maybe not these exact sequences, but the general idea of setting up antagonists early on with these little moments that can build to their final fights.

For the raid on Onigashima, I'd add objectives and tangible goals, plans and strategies. Because, as far as the raid goes, it devolves from a sneak attack into a massive drunken bar brawl almost immediately. Neither side tries much strategy or uses the terrain to their advantage. It's just bloody chaos.

Along the lines of this, more or less.
  • Franky was looking for the blueprints to Onigashima in Act 1 and Robin found them in Act 2.
  • With Law and the samurai the Alliance comes up with a strategy to block off key areas in Onigashima, burst the pipes and flood off these zones to remove some of the Beast Pirates from the fight and make it more equal.
  • Usopp is given the demolitions job in one area, Franky another, a samurai a final third point. Now these characters all have places to be and if they fail, it'll effect the rest of the raid negatively for their sides.
  • Challengers like Sasaki are now an actual threat, considering his attacks can clear the rubble sealing off parts of Onigashima. Franky has to either stall Sasaki until the area is flooded or beat him.
  • Succeeding can take out two or three thousand Beast Pirate fodder, a Tobi Roppo and some Numbers instead of relying on O'Tama's fruit to magically thin out their numbers.

Every major character would have some goal in mind. Some might just be to fight and be distractions because they're strong, but I wouldn't allow the Straw Hats to run wildly without any objective for 70 chapters lol.

-Limit the scabbards to 3-5 people, instead of 9.

-Remove Yamato.

-Remove the Ryokugyu & Shanks part.

-Take some panel time from Momonosuke & the scabbards, and give them to exploring all of Zoro's dropped plotlines.

-Keep the RT 5v2 as the final battle, and make ACoC Luffy's final PU. Save awakening for later.

-Let characters like Jimbei, Drake, Hawkins, Apoo & CP0 get better spotlight moments.

There's probably a lot more

Here are a few plots I would change in Wano:

Wano vs Raid in Onigashima: Oda should've done a better job at splitting these two sections apart. In my opinion Wano should've been the arc alongside WCI that leads to the Raid In Onigashima. This should've been the Zoro centric arc where he learns more of his past, bonds with Momo and the rest of the samurai and beats the Kaido selected Shogun, who also happens to be a Shimotsuki. Subplots for the Wano sections;

  • The dead Scabbards. Kinemom, Raizo, Kanjuro and Kiku are the last Wano Scabbards left. Instead of dedicating several chapters on find the lost scabbards, we're giving them a few chapters to mourn the loss off their fallen brethen. We'll learn more of guys like Ashura, Denjiro and Kawamatsu via Hiyori as each helped her sruvived throughout her life.
  • Luffy in Udon for training purposes, less focus on this part of the arc though. Maybe remove Hyogoro since he basically has the same role as flashback Rayleigh. Instead maybe Kid assist Luffy with training via pushing him ala Katakuri.
  • X Drake double agent arc. Holdem reports to Kaido of a kid who's able to tame gifters, so Kaido sends Drake on the case. Drake is tasked with bringing Tama and succeeds. What we don't know is the Drake is playing both sides as he's also Law's informant(have Law hint at having intel on the beast pirates earlier in the arc) and Drake ultimately is the one who comes up with the plan of turning all the gifters against Kaido.
  • Law's plan. Law and Sanji alongside other straw hats play a support role to Zoro as the first step of the plan is to liberate Wano. Have these guys interact with the Scabbards and the Beast Pirates in Wano so there's more of an emotional tie to the plot.

Big Mom Pirates: Okay, I will first start with a retcon. The reason Big Mom needed the Vinsmoke technology was to go to war with Kaido. Create a tension between the two Yonko since WCI, and do not wait until the reverie to reveal these two were crewmates. Big Mom talks about Kaido and taking him down in WCI. Now back to Wano, Big Mom now knowing that Luffy is preparing to attack Kaido decides to jump in and head to Wano with half her crew knowing Kaido has his hands full with Luffy.. Big Mom Pirates land in Onigashima, no waterfall BS. Kaido calls for an emergency regroup and the only immediate help he has is the 2 All Stars Jack and King (Queen is in Udon, Headliners are in Mainland Wano and Flying 6 are on missions). Queen leaves Udon to help Kaido, no O-Lin BS. End a chapter with a full out war breaking out on Onigashima, right as the SHs+ allies are preparing their attack on Onigashima. Law mentions that Kaido is fighting Big Mom, so their plan got a lot easier. We are shown our allied forces in high spirits but we end the arc with the BMP and Kaido feasting, both declaring their new alliance to find the One Piece.

I have more ideas on Doffy, Onigashima that I'll drop later on
I like parts of it and the same general scheme of it. Still would prefer a longer Udon Arc.

The idea of a Zoro arc would be cool. How many volumes / chapters would you dedicate to that? Especially like this idea ngl.
Kaido selected Shogun, who also happens to be a Shimotsuki
X Drake double agent arc. Holdem reports to Kaido of a kid who's able to tame gifters, so Kaido sends Drake on the case. Drake is tasked with bringing Tama and succeeds. This is also a good usage of X Drake's role in the Wano section for your rewrite idea. Would prefer him to be a little more hands on but I like the fact he succeeds in taking O'Tama. I can imagine the outrage in the weekly release.

I think around 30-40 chapters? The start of Zoro's arc would be when Luffy is thrown into Udon. From there we mainly follow Zoro around with the rest of the crew, with only a few (maybe 5?) chapters dedicated to Luffy and Kid in Udon.

This is also a good usage of X Drake's role in the Wano section for your rewrite idea. Would prefer him to be a little more hands on but I like the fact he succeeds in taking O'Tama. I can imagine the outrage in the weekly release.
We need to keep that in mind during the re write lol. When I typed most of the stuff I was visualizing how some sections will end, and the community reaction to it
