I think around 30-40 chapters?
What do you think the in-manga time frame is there? A few weeks? Months?

How long between Wano and an Onigashima Raid arc?
with only a few (maybe 5?) chapters dedicated to Luffy and Kid in Udon.
Man you're missing out on the potentials of an Udon arc.
We need to keep that in mind during the re write lol. When I typed most of the stuff I was visualizing how some sections will end, and the community reaction to it
True, Oda's a master at baiting his audience almost weekly. It's a good rise and fall of tension with his chapters.

Weeks, same as in the original. It would make Kaido look incompetent if the SHs are running rampant for months.

How long between Wano and an Onigashima Raid arc?
I think the original was fine, a week between Wano and Onigashima raid? Law would be banking on Kaido or BM being gimped when they arrive there, and the news of Kaido losing territory would be slow to get to him due to the emergency at hand.
Man you're missing out on the potentials of an Udon arc.
I'm all ears

Questionable decisions:
-Meme pirates kicked out of Wano twice in the same fashion is too embarassing for a yonko crew. Should've had them fight Cp0 from the get go after King launched them off, no need for Marco.
-Meme almost dying to a boulder, bruh
-Meme reduced to a bowling ball and used as offroad by Franky
-The scabbards leaving the Rooftop totally fine and capable to the point where they had 1v1s in which they won.
-If you're planning to kill Asura and Izo, at least let one of them die at the hands of Kaido. This is your main villain of the arc, but you literally had Kanjuro claim Asura's death. Like please what in heavens name are you doing lmao
-Luffy and Kaido's fight felt like a training ground if anything, each time Luffy jobs he comes back stronger. Like either you nerf Kaido or make Luffy a little bit more OP while he's in training
-I don't even want to talk about Kaido Jump Rope
-Big Meme vs rookies was not the most convincing fight, poorly drawn overall (great ending tho, one of the best)
-Inconsistencies with King's durability
-Kaido flashback
-Red promo

Characters:
-Give more background on X-Drake's stealth operation, and give him a W for once ffs
-Usopp was complete trash this arc, I don't think anything would change if we remove him
-My poor boy Jack was treated even worse than the Tobi Roppo, that's how bad it is
-There's no use complaining about Samurai wank, it's the literal purpose of this japanese themed cash grab arc
-Zoro's useless lineage teasers and fake promises
-Shed more light on Perospero's past rivalry with Marco and apparent dislike of King
There's probably a shit ton of character development to throw around but can't think of anything now

For DFs, I'm okay with them for the most part but would give Jack a mythical Minotaur fruit, smth to make him stand out

I guess that's true, but for a such a big arc it feels weird to have it all take place in weeks.
Tough to give a detailed breakdown, but my major points would be...

  • Udon focuses on Luffy, Kidd, Yamato & Hyogoro as each bounce off each other in the prison.
  • Luffy, weakened from Kaido, seastones & a lack of food, is saved by Hyogoro who shares his food with Luffy over several nights.
  • Kidd, the strongest inmate in Udon, establishes himself as a shotcaller and forces the inmates to give up their meal tickets for him.
  • Yamato, an enigmatic prisoner who Hygoro says is often taken in and out of Udon for months at a time, never shares so much as a smile for the other prisoners.
  • Hyogoro, the former Yakuza Boss of Wano and the man responsible for the demise of a previous All Star before his imprisonment.
  • Caribou, works for Kidd in Udon who purposefully antagonizes Hyogoro & Luffy.

Caribou would start a conflict between Kidd's goons in Udon & Hygoro over a lack of meal tickets given to Kidd, which would culminate in Kidd & Luffy clashing. Kidd would come out on top, being physically stronger and healthier, but before he can lay into Luffy, Yamato stops the fight, stressing that it'll draw the attention of the Wardens and they all will be punished cause of it.

The middle of Udon is Luffy & Hyogoro training in haki, Hyogoro mentions Oden which draws Yamato's interests. Unlike in canon, she's not obsessed with him but his impact on her life still shaped her world view. This commonality builds into the three of them sharing more time together in Udon.

I imagine the ending being similar to canon, only it's Kidd and Luffy fighting to the death over the course of 10 hours. Queen grows bored, begins to interfere in their match by shooting one of them or tossing his used plates at the other. The Supernova come to an agreement and unanimously strike Queen. Queen can showcase his fruit for the first time, physically crush the duo and prepare a proper execution for their insolence, only to receive word of the fighting on Onigashima. Ordering the duo to be detained and prepped for the most insidious torments Queen can think of, he leaves the injured Supernova and the rest of Udon in a hurry.

As the two are led to isolated cells, Raizo can pop up, have a cool moment of beating a few Headliners, unshackling the duo and starting a break out.

This allows Kidd and Luffy to be on much more equal terms leaving Udon, instead of Luffy saving Kidd. Yamato is built up over maybe 8 or 12 chapters as an independent bystander to someone who sees Luffy act courageous and selfless in Udon. Hyogoro has a bit more significance as a tangible threat, giving Wano some credit and allowing his eventual death to be a rallying point for all Udon Prisoners during the raid.

Yamato never reveals her identity, it can be an ongoing mystery until she faces Kaido. Her apparent knowledge of the Beast Pirates will hint at her close ties to them but that's it. It'll also allow for Kidd to jump into the raid with a little more firepower, taking Caribou alongside some prickly Udon prisoners who acted as Kidd's enforcers during their interment. Likewise, post Wano he can leave with a small fleet of pirates & samurai under his command.

Proceed with caution. Here we go:

----

1. No recklessness from the start

Manga version: Luffy acting impulsive in Udon, at the first meeting with Kaidou.

The rewrite: Maxing out his FS, Luffy realizes that every possibilities of the Future if he try to fight Kaidou, is death. Not just his death, but the massacre for his comrades first (imagine seeing Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Robin, Law die in front of him, their bodies exploded into meat juice as Kaidou deathblitz them all, with just a single move, his speed to kill them less than a hundreth of a second.) and he saw his own death the last. This emphasizes both Luffy's FS and also Kaidou being WSC. The win-win solution for hyping their future battle.

Luffy will wreck his own brain lightning-fast to bring his friends to some hideout in Wano first (before Kaidou closing in on them) instead of even encountering, much less confronting, the WSC directly. His friends will be confused as Luffy seem to know which way to go to and which direction to avoid in order to finally escape something that they havent even sense yet, which is Kaidou's presence and attention.

---

2. Proper individual preparation and self build-up

- Manga version: Luffy charges in blindly at Kuri, at Onigashima, everytime.

The rewrite: Luffy is facing the literal Strongest Living Being. He cant just go wherever he want and fighting fodders and Ulti and Page 1 and Yamato and Queen etc, he is the last stand against Kaidou. Luffy reserves his strength, move as efficiently as possible in this arc. Only fight himself if its absolutely necessary. Which, with Zoro-Law-Kidd-Yamato backing him up, they wont let anyone near him. If King-Queen-Jack can be fought against 1v1, well Luffy shouldnt even participate in fighting them, and save his strength only for Kaidou since the start.

- Luffy is facing the literal Strongest Living Being. It is foolish to train in prison, after defeat. The wise action is for Luffy to train individually since the start of post-timeskip, all in order to defeat Kaidou and Blackbeard (two people Rayleigh and Garp warned him about). Bring us a flashback of Luffy being oddly silent and locking himself in the Thousand Sunny's Captain Room, hours and even days after each arc battle. Against Hody, Doflamingo, Cracker, Katakuri. Apparently during which, he evaluate each of his strength and weaknesses, and constantly went under image training against the enemy he just beat, finding the best possible scenario to beat them efficiently to correct his mistakes...and more importantly, to do the third keypoint from me, that Luffy severely lacked, even when he should've made himself the best in the One Piece World regarding this:

---

3. No Messiah and Destiny - instead generate Creative Process - Luffy's Power Invention.

If there is something really impressive about Luffy, it's his creativity to invent his own powers using whatever assets he possesses, into something really fresh, fun, and at the same time limit-breakingly powerful. Imagine using one of the most boring and weakest Devil Fruit, Rubber Fruit, and instead formulate Gear 2nd. Imagine seeing it at the first time. Even without proper process and hints, its application in battle was nothing short of incredible.

Now Luffy should've trained his creativity and Oda should've (to some extent) depicted him as a boy that is hinted to be mentally exhausted, some time before each important battle. During his movement to reach Kaidou, while he shouldnt even participate in other battles...in contrast, his mind shouldve reeled constantly. Since he must push himself to create the strongest power possible, he cant relax since it's the WSC he will fight against. He should've told himself, its to protect everything. He can rest once its over. Its to protect everything. He can rest once its over.

During Luffy vs Kaidou, Nami or Zoro or someone shouldve told other alliance members like Scabbards, or having an internal monologue, that Luffy was exhausted before this battle against Kaidou even begin: since Luffy seemed to constantly invent and do experiment of his own fruit-haki-body-energy-mind etc to escalate his own powerlevel, and also constantly re-evaluating his own ideas on that, in order to surpass his enemies with his own original ways instead of mimicking his opponents' haki application.

This way, Luffy didnt need to emphasize the fated Voice of All Things as something to help him in dire needs, such as when Kaidou threw him down from Onigashima. Luffy shouldve faced Kaidou with his own original powers, maybe he managed to invented Internal Destruction as the result of his power invention? Instead of Hyogoro teaching him? That way it felt earned. Yes i'm looking for that feeling of Luffy earning something instead of taking that CoC specialization notion for granted.

----

4. A rough sketch how i prefer the Raid War compared to the canon

Since the beginning, all the strongest fighters in the alliance goes all-out and attack Kaidou. No one can even touch him due to Dragon Force: Kaidou's permanently-active CoA that he obsessively trained and hardened for decades since infant, acting as a body armor, millions of times stronger than Bari2 No Mi. The reason for his title, World's Strongest Creature. No one can reduce his lifeless boredom, emptiness, no one can force him to move an iota from his standing ground. Until he senses Luffy's presence.

Sensing this, Kaidou orders his subordinate to make way for the boy, and get away from Wano Country itself, to the seas, as far as they can. He also tells them that if they haven't finish the Strawhat Alliance by the time he's finished with Luffy, he'll kill them all himself.

With that order, the entire Beast and BM Pirates and alliance pirates sail to the ocean and start the war as tactical naval battles before boil down into group fights and 1v1s. Marco vs King aerial fight (flashy fireworks in the sky), Sanji, Usopp, Franky vs Queen with tricky sea battles.

Kyoshiro (Wano's 2nd strongest swordsman) and Zoro vs Orochi, whose Hydra form is actually very strong and resilient and also able to swim in the sea, even stronger than King, and also very cunning. Zoro also find that Orochi is apparently the best swordsman in Wano history, his sword techniques are far higher than his. Zoro can't even predict who will be the winner of a swordfight between Orochi and Mihawk if they are to meet in a battle.

Orochi kills Kyoshiro in the battle. After that, it becomes an underwater battle between Zoro and Wano's strongest swordsman who is also a sea monster, creating seawaves as high as mountains, one hydra head being cut but regenerated, rinse and repeat. But Zoro manages to awaken demon spirit Takemikazuchi as the Lightning Sword Deity, his unique CoA manifestation, and cut all nine heads at the same split second).

---

Strawhat Crews and 9 Scabbards vs Flying 6 and Numbers etc. Many casualties, many deaths from Heart Pirates, Kidd Pirates, Scabbards and Minks, many betrayals and backstabbings and double-agents etc. If we want some more gutpunch, Nami dies after being tortured by Beast Pirates and CPO Agents, replaced by Jimbei (can both steer and navigate, and also had inherit the incomplete map from Nami).

---

The only ones left in Onigashima are Kaidou and Luffy. Kaidou questions BM if she wanna die as well since she doesn't leave. BM says she just wants to watch since it's too risky for her to interfere in a battle between two guys that are seemingly dead equal as two WSC's. Kaidou says he recognizes BM's intention to kill whoever is left, and hog the glory for herself. But he cannot simply ignore the ultimate threat that is standing before him, Monkey D. Luffy. The boy already has Poseidon as his ally, Kaidou can't let him take his daughter Yamato just because her capabilities in Poneglyph reading and mystic arts.

During all this time, Luffy just stands perfectly still, his eyes closed and his mind for the billionth time simulating the fusion between Devil Fruit's Neural Awakening and Skysplitter Conqueror's Coat.

The boy opens his eyes, BM floats in the sky with Hera's cloud then she says "Begin."

Both Kaidou and Luffy leap forward meeting at the center, the first clash alone splitting the sky and disintegrate the giant skull at the same time.

---

Big Mom departs from Onigashima, leaving Luffy and Kaidou. Law, Brook and Wano samurai ambushed her, but Big Mom kills he majority of Samurai. Law and Brook vs Big Mom (operation hax vs soul hax). Law is beaten by Big Mom, but he takes opportunity of BM's recklessness and steals her heart at the most critical moment while BM neglects her own defense completely. At the same time, Brook possesses Big Mom in her most weakened state, and thus Brook's soul further enters Soru2 no Mi and takes away the fruit as his own. Law crushes BM's heart while Brook snatch Soru2 no Mi, killing her instantly. Yet, the damage Law suffers is too great, and Law dies shortly after.

---

5. No intervention in order to hype up others

Luffy vs WSC Kaidou, is the battle for PK. Just like Zoro vs Mihawk is a battle for WSS. Oda shouldve make it clear to everyone that Luffy vs Kaidou is not a battle they can interfere without their own death as the only result. Make Kaidou oneshot Zunisha as revenge for Zunisha oneshotting Jack, so everyone recognize that Kaidou is an existence with an impossible powerlevel beyond their imaginations. Make Kaidou state "This is first warning, and also the last." or something signifying that he, Kaidou, holds the life and death of the whole alliance, at his mercy.

This will be a solid pay-off to Kaidou's WSC introduction build-up. If Kaidou oneshot a living island then what can they even do lol? Oda should pay his respect to Kaidou this way, not making Kaidou relying on hostage since Oden must be wanked as well lol. Pick your priorities clearly please, Kaidou is a strength-epitome arc boss who btw also decides he wanna be PK. Its an exclusive battle for Luffy. Make it so. As for the others, they can fight other beast pirates. Oda can make Orochi as an extremely proficient swordsman who is also a menacing hydra etc, for Zoro to fight against, for example.

While Kaidou can be designed to create his own powers with mystic sacrifices or absorbing a hyper mythical artifact or something and assimilated its powers with his own, Original Titan powers or something, something worthy of WSC. Whatever, doesnt even have to be a Devil Fruit in order for Kaidou to achieve his WSC status, Oda can always find another way actually.

---

6. Earned powers, Earned Loss

Then after this much preparation and build-up, Luffy can earn his powers, he can battle to his heart's content, THEN he can lose. I agree that Luffy shouldve be beaten in Onigashima battle against Kaidou. But only with point 1-4 fulfilled. Not without. So Luffy' Onigashima defeat shouldve been his first and last, against Kaidou. No fake tension moments, no empty hypes, but an actual WSC and earned powerup, also Luffy becoming the one we actually root for to win an impossible fight, and he lost after all. A whole-hearted defeat that happen even after Luffy prepare himself to the utmost. In exchange, Oda shouldve replaced Kaidou oneshotting Luffy (Udon), with Luffy making strategic retreat instead (see point 1).

7. Finding Out Ways to Heal and Formulate the Final and most original PU, winning the fight by creative perseverance

Luffy can heal himself with meat. Gag moments right? Not for me. Oda shouldve gone all the way and make that stuff a doorway into Luffy figuring out that he can make his rubber body metabolize nutrients extremely fast, converting all of it into protein regeneration and strength-muscle-building or whatever. During that process, Luffy also formulate his last powerup. It can be achieved from figuring out that Ragnarok had CoC infusion. But Luffy doesnt stop there, he acknowledge that just copying his enemy's CoC Coating techniques will not grant him victory since his enemy can also do the same.

So Luffy takes a step further, and create something never seen before in this world. Luffy rubberize his own CoC and insert it into his own body, allowing him to move and attack massively faster than speed of light, faster than time, something only someone as creative as Luffy is capable of. Using this new created ability, Luffy defeats Kaidou. Kaidou dies. That day, Gomu2 no Mi is also erased from existence, sacrificed to create Luffy's new ability. From that moment, Luffy gets permanent FTL ability but lose Gomu2 no Mi, opening the possibility for him to get new fruit.

---

8. The contender saves the day

The day after the battle, Luffy and his friends can't fight. Greenbull comes to take Luffy' head. This is where Kidd saves the day. Kidd undergoes Awakening and his Devil Fruit becomes Gasha Gasha no Mi (Assimilation Devil Fruit). By this, Kidd is chosen by Pluton to be its master. Kidd (controlling Pluton) kills Greenbull, and then rides Pluton to the next island.

Nice rewrite. If only Oda thought through this deep instead of forcing 'Japanese samurai' shit more than necessary importance to scabbards/Oden/momo/Tama/Toko etc.
Add Toki being relevant to the story other than just being a housewife for self insert 'Oda'n.

  • orochi doesn't exist, the shogun of wano is a badass character and the second strongest after kaido with conquerors haki and fights zoro with a black blade and a supreme grade zoro turns wado into a black blade and takes the shoguns sword after killing him, enma is never given to zoro, hyori gifts to momonosuke instead
  • Marco vs king and Sanji vs Queen and then sanji and marco switch opponents, sanji awakens lunarian genes which allow him to use ifrit jambe, no exoskeleton no wings just the the lunarian defense and speed modes
  • as @TAC said brook fights hawkins and killer fights smoothie or daifuku instead
  • it stays a 3 vs 2 betweem the worst gen trio vs kaido and bigmom, bigmom falls first then 1 vs 3 before luffy awakens g5 and fights kaido alone
  • Erase half the scabbards and kyoshiro stays a villain he's kiemon's fight
  • Yamato is just a good hearted boy/girl and isn't obsessed with oden they just want to free wano

Okay you sold me on this, how many chapters you think it could be dedicated to this section? 15-20? Also what ideas do you have for Yamato?

Kidd (controlling Pluton) kills Greenbull, and then rides Pluton to the next island.
damn this reads like a Chimera Ant x Wano arc fusion lol

I wish Sasaki was Kokoro’s son :neesama:
I was ao angry that never came to fruition. The setup was there, especially with Franky fighting him too! Wano was really the country of letdowns/disappointment. City/Country of Gold or whatever? My ass!

We never learned what the true name of Onigashima was either! Nothing about Onis at all nor black blades and such. How did Kozukis enscribe Ponegylphs too? What about Wano being the origin of seastone gathering and thus exportation? Making it into other weapons too?

Also Oda the absolute asshole troll unveils Pluton was at Wano all along, which Robin NEVER cared to mention before despite knowing for a few years now FFS! Not even to the Revolutionaries apparently!? Not to mention the bigger Wano that was under Wano this whole time, with no indication/foreshadowing about it either! And we just leave the Wano with never elaborating on it!?:

There's so much I'd want to do for a rewrite for an arc and thus post here too but not right now, I'll do it soon at some point though.

@Pooth @lee33 you may be interested in this thread too lol. I would tag Peper but they're on such a rampage including ranting brutally about Wano/OP elsewhere earlier, so idk if I should now.

:saden::ihaha::risiup:
Post automatically merged:

Man you're missing out on the potentials of an Udon arc.
This should have been Kidds arc imo, where we saw his backstory and learned about him and Killer. Given what his backstory is too, Oda could show in the present with Kidd taking over Udon from Queen and getting revenge, in how that relates to Kidd uniting the bandit gangs or whatever in his homeland and conquering the biggest gang who ruled over them all. Would make a very nice parallel.

Udon was such nonsense, that teasing of who "that mysterious prisoner" was, Oda constantly showing their eyes in the darkness and baiting us with that suspense/myserty on their identity, with people trying to frantically guess who it was, to the point even names like Roger, Oden, Shiki came up lmfao. Why does that sound still relevant right now? Like its happening again right now? Hmmm...

:ronalugh::wonderland::hope::quest::kobeha:

We also had Oda showing Big Mom moving like a snail towards Wano, chapters upon chapters of seeing her slowly approaching Udon and thus that glacial stalling, like Luffy going to the rooftop too.
