Shiryu or Gandhi. One of them is beating Mihawk and becoming the new WSS before Zoro can do it, or Zoro's already beaten Mihawk before the final war which would be an odd position to be going into.

Mihawk just doesn't work as a final villain. There's no getting around that. The final fights against against Blackbeard and the World Gov. Mihawk is on neither of their sides.

The final fight isnt against bb at all.
They are next.
The war on the wg will be after the one piece is found like wb said.
Bb falls in the yonko saga like the others.
Mihawk said hed wait for zoro at the top.

And Ace said he'd meet Luffy at the top as well.

Look what happened there.

And regardless of whether you think Blackbeard is the final villain or not (he's absolutely not going down before the final war) it doesn't change the fact that Mihawk doesn't have a place at the sides of either of the two main villains going into the end. Him being a Warlord was the last hope of him being a final fight, and that's gone.

Why do you think Blackbeard won't be there at the tip of the one piece too and all hell won't break loose?
Because the bb pirates are being clearly set up for a 1 vs 1 with the shs. Not gonna happen with the navy there too who also have people for the crew to fight.
And Ace said he'd meet Luffy at the top as well.

Bb is absolutely not gonna be at the final war. Hes gonna fall before luffy is pk. The fight with the wg is after.
Zoro mihawk could be an epilogue fight for all we know.

Since when Mihawk need to be a villain in order to fight Zoro?

I don't agree because as the scale goes up no one fights 1 v 1 anymore. There are too many sides involved, and Oda will make it a mad competing war. We shall see.
Competing for what ?
Luffy and bbs crew are competing for pirate king. Not the Marines.
Wbs words are clear. Once someone finds the treasure then its the war.
Meaning going into the final war agains the multiple century old power the wg luffy will be pirate king.
Bb has no place there.

This is really not the thread for it, but Blackbeard has not been built up since Drum to be cast aside before the final war even begins.

It's not how Oda does things, and would be, to be quite frank, dull as hell.

The last fight in the series will quite obviously be Luffy winning and saving the world in the final war. He's the main character, not Zoro.

Oda is not going to, after what will probably be thirty years, get to the final war, have the greatest battle in the history of One Piece, with the fate of the world at stake... then extend the series with another fight later on, with much smaller stakes. Just doesn't make sense.

The marines are not going to sit back and relax lol.

He says when someone finds it the world will be turned upside down. It's a far cry from knowing it's war or against whom and who is involved.

Eh, if you are someone, like me, who believes it's actually Shanks who's going to be final battle or confrontation, then it's very easy to believe Mihawk may partner with Shanks current 9 main member (or 10 counting Rockstar, but he wasn't in the Marineford double spread so idk) crew towards the EoS when Luffy finally returns the hat.

Remember, Oda has known the ending since the beginning, and the original plotline only involved beating Yonko not Shichibukai (who he blames for extending the story so much). The only person who has been around since the beginning other than Luffy is Shanks. The major themes from Chapter 1 are Luffy becoming pirate king and returning the hat to Shanks. Shanks being the "end" of the story allows the story to come full circle. Not to mention, he's the only Yonko actually present the entire series.

Blackbeard was teased 140 chapters in and revealed 230 chapters in. While he has an immense villain presence, his power is a byproduct of the Shichibukai system and a dead Yonko, something we have no idea was planned from the beginning by Oda. So the only full constants this series has are:

- Luffy
- Shanks and his crew
- The Strawhat

It's why I think Mihawk is an "addition" to the Shanks plotline by the end. Shanks has been very weird lately too:

- Odd connection to the Gorosei/Respect from the Marines
- Constant "evil" face looks when Luffy is mentioned or around.
- Mysterious desire for "something". He asked Roger something before Roger died and cried immensely. This is unknown.

I'm not saying Shanks is evil, but I think he's a very morally grey character and we are going to find out why soon. To me, Shanks makes for an emotional end to the series, not Blackbeard. Blackbeard will be the epic battle, Shanks will be a hell of a lot more personal, especially if Mihawk is present for Zoro and Usopp and his father have a confrontation.

The "stakes" in this case are about personal conflict. I think Shanks/Mihawk will represent that for Luffy/Zoro. We don't know enough about Shanks regardless and it's important we keep our minds open about it.

What's the stakes otherwise?

We're talking final fights here. Greatest war the world has ever seen. A fight that's been eight hundred years in the making, where the Strawhats forever change the fate of the planet...

... except for Luffy's right hand man, Zoro, who is busy fighting Mihawk in a personal battle that has absolutely nothing to do with the world at all.

Just doesn't work, in any respect. Would actually shit all over Zoro's character and turn him back into selfish "I don't care about anything but me and my goals" pre-Strawhat Zoro.
Yes, this is why I have this eerie feeling of a chance for something (new alliance, death?) to happen to him, he's free for it now.

Also it's very fitting in storytelling that role models end up dying (Shanks, Mihawk). I have a bad feeling about this.
He technically speaking doesn't need to die, just be beaten.

But yeah, the emotion and story is stronger if he gets offed along with Shanks and Yasopp.
