What's there holding this up? The plot with hiyori? Nope, it is foreshadowed and a part of thr war.

Zoro's background? That will be at most 3 chapters (if there will be a flashback).
The reason why this will be come up in the middle of the war is simple, orochi + king killed ushimaru.

They did not met zoro till now, did they? So I'm saying, that it will come up when he faces the people who killed his father. Which is quite typical imo.

Lost? The last man standing in 2 vs 1. Killer use his lucky shot but Zoro tanked it then bloodlustly smile at Killer, Killer shocked, then Zoro outstrength killer with only his mere shoulder then proceed to one shotted him.

Killer isn't fodder. He is as strong if not stronger than Sanji.
