I agree with your take.
Prior to this chapter, Weevil received very good portrayal since his strength was compared to young WB. We also don't know what difficulty Aramaki needed for Weevil.
It's clear that Weevil is one of the strongest warlords. It's just the case that Aramaki is simply far stronger. He's an admiral.
An admiral is supposed to be the greatest force of the navy/WG. These guys have to beat 99% of pirates to be worthy of their title, otherwise navy wouldn't stand a real chance against legendary pirates. They also wouldn't really survive any confrontation with said pirates.
Shanks basically scared Aramaki off but let's not forget that this guy wanted to take on the same alliance that defeated Kaido and Big Mom. Kizaru was also sent to Egghead Island to battle the current emperor, Luffy. Let's not forget that.
As Aramaki proved, they can't allow to be beaten or stopped by far weaker foes or commanders. Aokiji also demonstrated that a powerful pirate like Cracker is no big deal as well.
Hell, AKAINU basically said to Jinbe: "Jinbe, you're a warlord, you are supposed to know MY STRENGTH." - A clear message to highlight that even warlords are too weak against admirals.
