I was talking with @Dr_Professor83 about comics the other day and we got to the topic of villains of course. We agreed Joker is the most iconic etc villain and started talking about number 2.

So interested in hearing your thoughts as well.

R1: Who is a better villain?

R2: Who is a better character?

R3: Who is more iconic?

R4: Who do you like more?

VS

Some comics book fans off the top of my head.

That’s a good question, I’d say Dooms a better villain because Magneto has become less of a villain and more of an anti hero, even going so far as becoming a leader of the X Men.

However, as a character I like Magneto a lot, and holy hell did Sir Ian McKellen really knock it out of the park. However Fassbender was also phenomenal literally making him one of the best parts of the new X Men Movies.

Alright just my humble opinion- Magneto is tiers away from Dr. Doom as a villain. Tiers. Doom is not a bad villain but I think Magneto is arguably the best comic book villain of all time, yes better than the Joker at times depending on who is writing him.

Magneto is the perfect villain for the stories he exists in. X-Men stories are fundamentally about racism and prejudice, and the titanium nuts Lee and Kirby had to create a character who was a Jewish Holocaust survivor vowing to take revenge on his Nazi captors-and then make this character a villain who stood in opposition to Xavier’s relatively pure idealism,

Man, capitalists do not write characters like this anymore. I’m not going to deep dive into every magneto story but usually I find when he’s handled by a good writer he is an excellent character.

Doom for me just gets really weird a lot of the time, and I don’t really understand where the writers are going with him other than β€œwouldn’t it be cool if…” type stories whereas Magneto’s stories usually have more depth to them.

IMHO I would’ve challenged you guys at even putting Joker above Magneto.

I have Doom edging it in all categories ngl. Tho Magneto isn't far behind.

Wish we could finally get a proper cinematic adaptation of Doom.

Honestly for me he is the best part of the new movies.

Yeah I haven’t rewatched the new movies in a bit; but Fassbenders Magneto definitely stood out.

I will say I think with the sheer amount of Magic Marvel is using now this may be our only chance to get a decent Victor Von Doom.

Magneto is great no doubt and tbh I think it's really arguable between him and Doom, but for me the Joker stands above them. If we take them at their peak I am picking the Joker over them anytime. But again, that's me. Imo they are the top 3 comic book villains, at the very least top 5.

Yeah agree and hopefully we do get it soon. It'd be such a shame if such an iconic character like Doom never gets the proper adaptation he deserves.

Going with Doom in all categories, and that’s not a knock on Magneto.

There’s something just really fun seeing Doom at his best/highest highs and it’s similar to Batman at his where he does something and you’re just like β€œholy shit that’s freaking cool”. I also just love a good egomaniac villain and Doom is the pinnacle of that.

Magneto is also amazing, and I think my favorite versions of Magneto are when he’s straddling the line between villain and anti hero. X Men may be my favorite comics so Magneto has a special place in my heart.

Magneto, Doom, and Joker are all in a way the zenith of their respective archetypes in the world or comics. (Lex & Doom fit the same one but I’m going Doom every time there and it’s not even close).

Who someone picks (assuming they’re familiar with more than just movie adaptation versions) is probably going to come down to which archetype they prefer in a villain more often than not. Someone who prefers the thematically deep/sympathetic villain is probably going to pick Magneto. And I can’t knock that because I definitely see the appeal and I enjoy/love those types too.

But I think I like the classic villain more when it’s done well bc there’s just something special about those to me when a writer manages to pull one off and make them truly iconic.

PS: Magneto sweeps in all when you do movie versions since we’ve never got a proper live action Doom.

Magneto wins all three for me. Also, most of my knowledge about them comes from movies so there's that, lol.
You're missing out on Doom greatness. The movies don't do him any justice at all.
