But you must've seen his Bankai if you finished the Ichigo vs Byakuya fight no?
I don’t think so, I think I just saw his Shikai used vs Ichimaru but not his Bankai yet.

I assume he’ll be yet another character with a cooler Bankai than Ichigo.

Also is Byakuya supposed to be massively stronger than Kenpachi? I mean Byakuya had a close fight with Bankai Ichigod where he probably would’ve won if not for that Hollow bullshit while Kenpachi drew with Shikai Ichigod right?

Oh I might be misremembering then nvm.

Its... complicated I cant say more but Ill say he's technically stronger but also not really lol.
This will get answered towards the end of the series.
I think way before to be honest, like during the Hueco Mundo Arc we get some explanations and hints.

Welcome to Bleach powerscaling

Btw judging by how much love you have for Ichigod, I can't wait to see your reaction when you see a certain Espada fight him in Karakura town.

To be honest the Kenny case somewhat makes sense, since he nuked Unohana as a kid he started placing barriers on his powerlevel so that he can keep enjoying fights with people and not kill them accidentally. So he lowered his power level to Ichigo's at the time but since Ichigo had a huge power spike all of a sudden he didnt give time to Kenny to adjust and beat him.

Okay, so a lot of shit to talk about as I just finished Ichigod vs Byakuya. I’m going to start with the bad in this post because I just read an Ichigod fight and I have a horrid taste in my mouth.

God, I fucking hate Ichigo Kurosaki. If you would’ve told me that I would read a major shonen protagonist who made me miss the comparative quaint subtlety of Monkey D. Shitfairy, I would have most certainly not believed you but Ichigo is just that guy.

First off, Ichigod blocking a blow from the Sokyoku which is 1 million Zanpaku To?

Second, Ichigod vs Byakuya. This fight was all of the shit I hated about Ichigo but cranked up to 11. First off, Ichigod’s Bankai is just completely lame. Why in these types of series do all the secondary characters have these crazy fantastical abilities, like Renji’s giant snake Bankai, Byakuya’s cool flower pedal spam, Yamamoto’s Flame Shikai, Dog Captain’s giant samurai, etc…and then when the protagonist gets a powerup it’s just “now I can move faster and hit harder!” Like, what the fuck dude. All the imagination and creativity around Bankai out the window in favor of Zoom Zoom Ichigod who somehow looks less cool than he even looked in base. And then we get a mid fight powerup where Ichigod randomly becomes a Hollow and heals from all injuries while Byakuya stands around scratching his nuts and stockpiling damage. So, so shit.

To add insult to injury, the fight choreography of Ichigod vs Byakuya was trash. I don’t think there were any cool/memorable panels at all. Byakuya vs Renji utterly shits on Ichigod in terms of choreography, imaginative powers, brainpower involved to understand the fight, etc…and then when Byakuya’s ultimate reason for letting RUkia die was revealed, it was just “I am the law” which…I could’ve told you the second I laid eyes on him. I was expecting a big character reveal or a deeper look into Byakuya’s character but no, literally I was able to guess Byakuya’s exact motivation and character from the very first panel I saw of him. Such a pathetic “finale” to an otherwise really cool Captain.

Ichigod vs Byakuya verdict?

Alright let’s move onto better things because the Soul Society Arc really did increase in quality post Uryu vs Captain 12.

I mentioned it a few posts back but Renji vs Byakuya was great. Renji’s introduction to Bankai was really cool, and I like how Byakuya just dealt with him easily with his own Bankai. It really hyped Byakuya as a veteran Bankai user vs Renji who was a noob before Titty would later go on to flush Byakuya down the toilet in his lame ass fight with Ichigod. For a solid 30 chapters at least, I thought Byakuya was awesome.

Kenpachi vs Black Captain was hilarious. Hand to god, I swear I predicted exactly how Kenpachi was able to beat Black Captain. I was like “he’s going to wait until he gets sliced and gauge Black Captain’s location from where he gets wounded” which is exactly what happened. Not to diss the fight, shit was hilarious and I can see why Kenpachi is a fan favorite. He is a character well beyond Titty’s writing ability.

The emotional buildup to Rukia’s execution was actually pretty solid I thought, even though I never cared much about RUkia. Even if the climax of Ichigod blocking the Sokyoku made me vomit profusely, at least the buildup was nice.

Ya know, why do I feel like Ichimaru is actually a secret good guy who just likes trolling all the idiots who think he’s evil? I mean I know Aizen is the ultimate villain here but Ichimaru is someone I’ve never seen talked about.

I feel like Yamato vs Kyoraku and White Hair Cough Cough is going to be great. Even though Kyoraku and Cough Cough’s Shikai are lame as hell.

I wish we could’ve gotten an actual fight between dog Captain and Kenpachi. I mean I feel like Kenpachi beating two captains is excessive but also I feel like Yoruichi vs Captain 4 could’ve just been cut for another Kenpachi fight and no one would’ve complained lol.

Anyway. Gotta get the taste of Ichigod vs Byakuya out of my mouth. Poor poor Byakuya man.
Aye that sounds pretty much right. Lol. Ichigo is by far the worst major shonen protagonist and I detest all of his fights. They are just discount DBZ brawls.

Ichigo's Bankai is indeed absolutely asinine. You want to know something else?
Ichigo's fighting style is so smeggin boring that he pretty much only has one named attack and slight variations of it for the entire series. The big flying sword slash. That one.

It is amazing how hard Kubo wanks his MC's power level while simultaneously completely short handing him on having an actual ability.
I also liked the fight between Kenpachi vs Tosen. Tosen's ability is pretty damn cool. Back when I read the fight, I also predicted how Kubo was going to have Kenny win shortly before he did just that. Even though I predicted it, the fight was still cool and how he won was still feckin metal.

I can't actually remember the Komamura part of the fight all that much but hey, Kenny probably just out muscled it like he does every other problem.

If you remember my posts (rants) about Bleach then you might remember my disdain for Ichimaru who I referred to as Gin in my posts.

Gin is a character I very much wanted to like but ultimately couldn't. If you don't remember why then I won't spoil you (again?) now but yeah, screw that guy. Lol.

Quite funny reading this.

Bleach was my first anime series, so I knew jack shit about other manga’s or Japan or anything. Vague memories of watching Pokemon, Digimon and YuGiOh as like a 5 year old, but then a big gap before I discovered Bleach.

So 13 year old me found the Soul Society to be a completely wacky and amazing place. Medieval Japan but with technology, magic, talking cats and massive cannons. Never seen anything like it.

Also it was the anime and not the manga, so that’s quite a different vibe.

Whereas if I was to read it now for the first time? Probably, yeah, seen it all before nothing new.

Basically, nostalgia can carry over a lot of sins, cause while I know Bleach has a myriad of problems god I still love it. And maybe there should be some recognition that it was 13 year olds that the series was aimed towards and not grown men.

(And I still don’t think anyone can experience the full Kuboness of the TYBW unless you are reading the chapters weekly and seeing how little he can move a plot at the end).
Exactly this. If you already seen other shows chances are you won’t really like Bleach like that. Also the I think the anime really improved some parts early on, even some of the filler arcs and their characters were popular iirc.

Don’t wanna spoil Admiral Lee but man Kubo really wasted Ichigo despite all the “potential” he had and was even called as much later on. All that and he just had the Getsuga to show with an occasional burst of reiatsu. Probably one of the biggest flaws of Bleach by itself right there. The fact that Ichigo never really took on opponents with hax is telling because when he did he would be on his knees defeated by the end of it.

Also regarding SS’s appearance, I do think Kubo attempts to incorporate other “cultures” in Burn the Witch with Britain having the SS West Branch however that is long after the fact in a Spin Off series and I think it contradicts some of the early stuff about all the souls going to the Rukongai districts and all the other details I cannot remember that throw a wrench in that.

I don’t think so, I think I just saw his Shikai used vs Ichimaru but not his Bankai yet.

There's actually a reasonable explanation for why Kenpachi seemed so weak in comparison to Byakuya and was the only captain that could lose to Shikai Ichigo.

Alright so Aizen just declared himself the king of Heaven and got rescued by the Menos,

Okay, so we have to talk about Aizen and his whole reveal. I really don’t think this reveal was set up all that well. I don’t really ever recall hearing that the council of 46 even existed until it was time to reveal that Aizen had killed them all. Maybe I am misremembering but I feel like by the time I had met them, I was learning that Aizen had killed them. As far as I can tell, the only thing even remotely hinting that Aizen was going to be a villain was the fact that Rukia’s execution orders kept changing. Which the fact that there were so few hints isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I’m all for a good shock villain reveal.

My problem is that because there was so little foreshadowing Aizen being a villain, it felt less to me like Titty had this planned from the start, and more like Titty just retroactively came up with this development to patch up some of the plot holes that he created by accident. For example, Rukia’s execution schedule arbitrarily changing up until this point really didn’t make any sense at all, and I’m surprised none of the captains questioned why it changed now that I’m looking back on it. Like it changed with zero explanation and everyone was just like “okay”. Lol

Also I don’t think it was explained from Aizen’s perspective why the execution time was changed at all? Maybe I just missed this.

Okay so anyway, Aizen is too powerful. He is straight up nonsensically strong. Man neg diffed two Captain Bankai’s without even using his Shikai. As I read this shit, I could just feel my hatred for Ichigod swelling up as I’m realizing how stupid Ichigo is about to become in order to fight this guy.

And the greatest irony in all of this? Despite Iceboi and Big Bad Wolf’s Bankai getting negged, given the choice, I was still prefer those two’s Bankai to trash ass Ichigod’s Bloodborne weeb cosplay Bankai. And again, I didn’t even see any moves from there Bankai and I’m still that confident that they have cooler Bankai than Ichigod.

Alright what else…

Byakuya was cool again. Not that he was ever not cool but his fight with Ichigod was so lame that I had sort of lost interest in him. But him saving RUkia is a great opportunity for some more development on his part. I guess now that he knows that Rukia’s execution was just a conspiracy plot to steal her Dark Soul (Lord Gwyn shivers), now he’s feeling like he can stop it. Which is good.

I wish we could’ve seen more from Kyoraku and White Hair Cough Cough’s fight with Yamamoto. Yama had them both bleeding so dude seems strong as fuck. I wonder if he could push Ichigod to mid diff?

So now with Rukia’s execution just being a conspiracy, the stage is set for Ichigod to become the Soul Reaper messiah and for all the captains to accept him as an ally or whatever. I can see why this arc was such a big deal at the time as Ichigod becoming a potential Soul Society hero is just classic Shonen.

Anyway. On to the next one.

What do you think about:
- Kenpachi vs Komamura and Tosen
-Yoruichi vs Soifon
I think both were pretty good.

Yeah, Komamura the Wolf's bankai is cool. The downside is whatever damage inflicted to the Giant (easy target), Komamura suffers it too. Kinda discounted version of Pica's devil fruit.

46 really could have used more development before and after their deaths...
