I doubt it'd work with current secular societies

Monarchy (if I'm correct it is a monarchy) in Islam for instance isn't that of King and Queen persay but it is a head of the state called Amir.. And not based on Dynasties but the criteria is religious, political education also military leadership and capability.. In essence its a a merit system based on qualities aforementioned ( even tho Ottomans and i believe Mughals turned it into a Dynasty)

To offset his rule is a circle of senior scholars that are independent of the Amir and advise the Amir for amendments and decisions. They can outright oppose him for his I'll-doings that goes against Sharia

AAnd even tho we believe with right leaders its the best meathod to rule..it is still susceptible to ill leadership and you can see that in Islamic history. But through Islamic law and education even folks that once were slaves became the heada of state and contributed greatly to Islamic endeavours.. I'm referring to the Mamluk empire.

You know why the Japanese imperial house is the oldest still existing continueous one on earth?

Because you never had to dethrone the emperor to gain true power.
Your ideal idea of monarchy ,as well as any democratic forms of government can be undermined and turned into puppets.
Just look at what is happening to current democracies.
