The verbiage used for ACoC is the same as ACoA/Ryou. You need to make it "engulf" your body.

So you still need to be able to use basic Ryou at least.

Which is something the Kuja warriors and Scabbards can do so Kid should already have it

That's not how a shonen manga works. The characters always get stronger as the story progresses further, no matter if they had a full training arc or none of that.

You don't need to unlock Adv CoC. You just need to know that CoC can be used like that. If Kid has Ryou he could use Adv CoC at any point.
