So bad people respect him because he is good? And he has ties to the most powerful people in the verse. Not even WB or Roger had ties to them. Both of these are mary sue qualities.

Bad people respect him because hes powerful and "certain" bad (Gorosei) and morally grey (Sengoku) people respect him because of his implied bloodline and his sense for not being violent immediately. Compare this to Luffy, who is good and powerful, but is just as vdestructive as Blackbeard/Kaido/BM when it comes to starting shit. Not to mention he's a D.

Roger and WB are not implied to be part of a CD bloodline, so im really not understanding where you are going with this lmao.

We literally know nothing about the background of the character lol. Anyway, there are reasons for this. Shanks has respect from certain characters primarily because

A) He's not destructive and chaotic. BB, BM and Kaido are. He chooses peace first before he fights.

B) He has an unknown relationship with the Gorosei and WG, though strongly hinted at being a Celestial Dragon or something close to it.

Not sure what your "amazing haki" comment comes from. When Shanks clashed with WB, it was the only clash of its kind in 400 chapters. When he made people faint from Conquerors, it wasnt even defined and was the first time it was ever shown.

I hate the term Mary Sue, people tend to go to it to put down something they didn't like instead of thinking out their criticism, and it never adds anything to discussions.
If there's a character with those characteristics and it works for the story then there's nothing wrong with that.The intention behind the label is something worth talking about, but resorting to just the label turns arguments away from discussions.

17. Everyone relevant loves and/or fears him
18. He is always drawn in a cool way

It's not even funny at this point. He is LITERALLY the personification of the term "Mary Sue". He can do everything and everyone loves him. He is peerless and can do no wrong.

Shanks has to be the biggest mary sue in One Piece. There has never been a more "can do no wrong" character who always has to look cool and can never have flaws than Shanks. He has never lost a fight onscreen. Hell, he has never even had to sweat onscreen, against formidable opponents like Kaido, Whitebeard or Akainu. His face is always perfectly drawn, he has groupies surrounding him. Every named character loves him, except the ones we aren't supposed to root for, and the author constantly sucks his dick. Biggest author's pet in the story. He makes Oden look like an underdog by comparison.

Shanks doesn't even have half the creator's worship that Lolda give Lolden. How is Shanks the bigger Mary Sue?

And what Mary Sue would lose his dominant arm to @Lor D. Coast on the first chapter, anyway?

Nah, I mean for sure he is somewhat put on a pedestal by Oda but don't forget he was bullied by bandits the first moment we saw him and also he was not active until this point, looking only to party around. Then for sure I agree that the lady magnet in the last chapter was a bit cringe.

The mary sue of this manga is sadly the MC at this point. Only the gags depicting hin as an idiot keep him from being a true Mary sue (MC of Solo leveling to make an example, or Sword art online).

You and the other guy are both missing the point. Him losing an arm and being bullied both happened not because Shanks was weak to stop it from happening. Both of those happened because Shanks let them happen. Shanks could have easily scared away the bandits or protected his arm through haki. But Shanks let those happen voluntarily. Reason? Because Shanks is so cool and badass and he will forgive everything. He gave away his arm because he is so cool and flawless and doesn't need an arm at all!!!!
