Break Week What would you change in One Piece?

Overall?

I’d shrink the main cast. Combine some of their roles in order to make sure my main characters keep plenty of shrine. I’d probably just keep the East Blue 5 and Chopper. (Despite me liking others more I think chopper is a more core character and animal mascots sell well)

Luffy - Keep him the same
Zoro - Basically the same but make him the go to Helmsman
Nami - Give her the abilities to read poneglyphs since Poneglyphs and the map to raftel are connected
Usopp - Make him a true carpenter. Give him a bit of training from iceberg during the end of water 7 while the Sunny’s being built
Sanji - Basically the same but just give him a slight musical talent (like a violin for the “fine dining” French motif)
Chopper - Basically the same

Cut down on side characters per arc and not separate the straw hats every arc.

Only have CoC exist. The other haki just don’t work well.

Delete the emperors. Make the top brass of the pirate world the seven warlords (they’d be unaffiliated with the WG) and make a bounty hunting guild the third side of the three great powers. So we have pirates, marines, and a neutral force which goes where the money leads them.

No two year timeskip.

Of course there are arc to arc changes I’d make as well, but these are the major changes I think would make a more fluent story

Take away infinite attempts from Luffy and make him a lot stronger so he can win in one round and also remove the cringe grinning.
More crew interactions, focusing on their hobbies and TS training flashbacks. Less side characters and more info per chapter.

Routine breaks from the Straw hats in the New World. Nothing major, but twice an arc have a 3/4 chapter diversion to other groups doing things.
Yeah that's probably my favorite thing about Post Wano

We get to see other things around the world instead of getting the Strawhats' POV 24/7

Anyway outside of that I would...

- Give Usopp development and make it permanent

- Give Chopper a larger role and change his design so he looks more like a teenager

- Give Zoro more comedic moments (I miss the Tarzan yell)

- Reduce the number of side characters in every arc

- Bring up the dream of each individual Strawhat (outside of Luffy and Zoro) a lot more. I know certain members have dreams that will be completed over the course of the journey (Robin, Franky, Brook, etc) but there's no reason we can't see Nami drawing her map or Sanji looking for clues that lead to the All Blue every now and then

- Less fakeouts. People don't believe it when characters actually die due to Oda's terrible streak of faking out character deaths

- This is a bit controversial but I think we need MORE "filler" not less. Have the Strawhats seek out the Emerald City and connect it to the One Piece or something later. This would give certain Strawhats that shine outside of combat a bit more spotlight PLUS bring back the feeling of wonder and exploration that people loved pre timeskip

- More exploration period. Ballon Terminal, Vira, Raijin Island, etc would be great locations for the Strawhats to visit. Most arcs have Man vs Man conflict but I don't think we've seen Oda do Man vs Nature yet

I'd say more focus on the straw hats as individuals and give them either more fights or role central moments.

Also more interactions between each other as well, I really enjoyed Franky and Zoro's moments in Wano.

Co-sign.

The others aren’t really needed, and as a result they’re all reduced to short reactions.

I would also “break out” from the simple island-new villains-victory plot more often, Impel Down, Marineford and WCI were great because they came out of nowhere and interrupted the normal careless sailing.

Make more consequences from actions (loss and including deaths).

Yeah the separate island separate villain story arc has gotten repetitive. There should be more arcs related to the overarching plot.

Skypeia, Impel Down, Marineford, and even Egghead are great examples. And heist rescue arcs like WCI were great for exploring character motivations.
