You can’t be mad at Oda for hyping Shanks at Kid’s expense. Shanks is literally supposed to be the pinnacle of the pirate world.

Remember what Luffy said in chapter 1: “ I will surpass you and become pirate king”

becoming PK is tied to surpassing shanks

It seems like he just had beef with Shanks and his crew, he didn’t come there to attack the giants and their island. Yet they wreck his ship like he’s some villain who came there looking to terrorize their people. LMAFO

To be fair - Kid would have caused much collateral damage to elbaf. I don't think he would have given a rats ass about it if he saw a chance to beat Shanks.
In addition he killed many civilians before getting his 320 million bounty - so don't make him look like he is a saint.
