Which doesn't make sense. In PH he told Smiker he's still him pertaining to justice. But BB is a hinted rapist, senseless murderer, and all around creep. I get joining a pirate against the WG, by why pick the most depraved one?

The Blackbeard Pirates are a huge step up from the Marines and if Kuzan does want to know the true history of the world because of Ohara, Blackbeard is his only option.

Maybe this is a bit of copium but to me the dialogue to me felt like it was implying Kuzan is holding back, ala Orochimaru vs Hiruzen. In fact this is similar to Orochimaru vs Hiruzen in a lot of ways

Kuzan is on a mission. Yes. But he also says there are he can do without being a marine. And that he never thought the World Government was all that much.
Kuzan isn't working for the marines.
