Mihawk is the most unproblematic dude in the manga. He doesn't provoke anyone, he really just be chilling alone on his island.

All of a sudden he's got a million marines swarming his island so he leaves and forms Cross Guild cos why not - they can help keep the feds off his back.

And now he's being thrust into a race for Pirate King that he has literally zero interest for whatsoever. He doesn't give a singular flying fuck about Pirate King lmfao, why should he bother fighting 3 Yonko at all, let alone on Buggy's order - a fodder and actual clown. His statement is what any logical person would say in that situation, especially since he's the one who'll be doing all the fighting lool.

Y'all gotta chill fr. Betting against Mihawk is not intelligent when he chose to hype Mihawk above Mary Sue Shanks in-canon.

Fifith, Oda keeps not developing Mihawk any substantial character development. Buggy and Crocodile have well defined reasons for being at Cross Guild but what about Mihawk? He doesn't want any of that! He just want to chill, go on hunting sometimes while waiting for a real challenge for his title(actually I think he stopped the hunting since he met Zoro). He is doing Crocodile's plan without having a will of his own.
