Any honest folk would refer to scholarly or academic interpretations and this is the problem with everyone who so darn confident that they have understood it and think you have he credentials to draw conclusions and then proclaim them.

The only time i am aware of where you can conceal your faith is when your life and is at risk or you are a spy among military enemy or you are gonna be segregated against by people for being a Muslim.
But the burden of proof, I'm sure you're aware, lies on you and you have to provide evidence for islam allowing laymen or even preachers to deceive other religous folk for whatever reason or deceive them into the religion like you allude.
Which is contrary to what Quran Maintains :
Invite ˹all˺ to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and kind advice, and only debate with them in the best manner. Surely your Lord ˹alone˺ knows best who has strayed from His Way and who is ˹rightly˺ guided. (Quran 16:125)
And again conclusions drawn even when you haven't the expertise to do so.
The concept of Jihad is an abstract concept which essentially means struggle for the sake and in way of God (Allah) meant to solidify the religion on the planet against other ideologies it is not a materialistic concept for personal gain, wealth is etc even tho wealth and gain might be a byproduct of Jihad
-Struggle against desires, toxic emotions is also Jihad
- Debating against opposing ideologies and refuting them is also Jihad
- Struggle against oppression is also Jihad
- Fighting against those who fight you is Jihad
Its a theological narrative it doesn't make you wealthy it puts you on the front lines of criticism, personal struggles and obligates you to fend for your kind and self.. It promotes you and your theology to survive, thrive, the religion to be safe against other theologies that work against the existence of yours and fight in the same narrative "WE HAVE THE ULTIMATE TRUTH"

He cheated but he still didn't win with the first round. It's probably because he wants the opposition and the people to believe that "the elections were fair BECAUSE it wasn't easy for him. If he was a cheater, he would have cheated thoroughly like in the last elections"
