Ladies and gentlemen, husbando sisters and waifu bros!
In around one month the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is starting! Despite women's football not nearly being as popular as men's I have decided to open a thread about it.
When is it starting?: 20.07.2023 or in other format 2023-07-20
Where?: It will be hosted by Australia & New Zealand, so matches will be at very different times than lots of other football tournaments
Why you should discuss in this thread:
- It´s a lot of fun, there might be new good jokes and memes for us^^
- Australia and New Zealand having different time zones than most past world cups, so for some users this might be easier to follow this time (for others not so much but it is what it is)
- This time it will be the same mode (32 teams in 8 x 4 groups) like the last world cup in Qatar that proved to be the best mode
- There are teams in it that never qualified in a men´s world cup like Vietnam or Zambia!
- It is not completely dominated by european or south american teams, USA is the reigning world champion and Japan has also once won the world cup!
- You guys can have football waifus like me having chosen Messi as my football husbando last time xD
- Germany is actually still a good team worth rooting for!
Women´s world champions so far:
1991 USA
1995 Norway
1999 USA (after close penalty-shootout against China)
2003 Germany (after extension time against Sweden)
2007 Germany (2-0 against Brazil)
2011 Japan (after dramatic match and penalty-shootout against USA)
2015 USA (taking 5-2 revenge against Japan)
2019 USA (2-0 against Netherlands)
