But I was thinking about it recently because I'm reading this book on jewish history. A thing my rabbi wanted me to read as part of the conversion process.
There were parts of that book that made me legitimately sad. I think I cried a couple times in the holocaust chapter. And I kinda realized, America did comparably evil shit to black and native americans, however America was never really held responsible for its crimes against humanity in the same way Germany was.
You still have people flying confederate flags. I live in Texas and have seen it several times. And at least from my understanding of German culture, they have a completely different relationship to the nazis than what the Americans have with the confederates.
I feel like America needs to hold itself responsible for the evil things it has done to its fellow citizens. And I think Black people deserve compensation for the stolen property and labor that America took from them. Same with the Native Americans.
