My best friend is a lawyer. He works with domestic violence victims.
He told me this story.
His client’s boyfriend brutally assaulted her. She wanted him to be convicted, even if he did little to no time in jail.
The abuser’s attorney was trying to argue with the prosecutor for a plea deal. One where the guy basically does some anger management classes and the offense is dropped from his record.
My friend’s client didn’t accept this deal. She wanted her abuser to be held accountable. Due to some laws, the Prosecutor needed to respect the wishes of the victim(to some extent).
Anyways my friend told me that the abuser’s lawyer was an asshole and basically threatened to press false charges against the victim if she didn’t accept the bullshit plea agreement.
