Manga Discussion What are your wishes for the future of the manga industry?

#21
I've been a comic book lover for as long as i can remember. I've dedicated the last few months to delving into the good things of the manga industry. Now i understand why people say that mangas are the future of the comics industry, and i'm excited about the idea.
We are in a time where many talented budding manga authors are emerging in the industry. Examples are Gege Akutami from Jujutsu Kaisen(Which i personally don't read.),Yuto Suzuki from Sakamoto Days, and Yukinobu Tatsu from Dandadan(I do read these two.). It's possible that many more budding authors will start serializing engrossing series with inspired and innovative stories in the near future.
This thread is for discussing what things we want to see in future new manga series. What themes we want the stories to have? What concepts we want the stories to use? Etc.
I wish for a manga about a epic fantasy world like Legends of Zelda and Dungeons & Dragons. Preferably one that uses the concepts like fairies, goblins, dragons etc in inspired and innovative ways to make the story really engrossing.
One idea that OP wasted and i think that some future new author could use better is the mythology about the Oni creature. After OP teased this concept but proceeded to never use,i searched about it in internet, and i think it would make for a good epic adventure manga. I imagine that some future author could subvert the legend of Momotaro and write a story where the Onis are more successful villains.
Finally, I caught up to the thread! Please do tag me, I like reading your posts and ideas about mangas :)
For a fantasy manga, I started reading this one - https://mangasee123.com/manga/Sousou-no-Frieren - it's about an elven wizard and her adventurer's party, but it starts when they already had their big damn heroes quest, and then it's mostly about her. I read it from time to time, the art is nice, and it does remind me of D&D.
Also, if I could choose a manga plot, I'd want a D&D game plus some panels about people playing it. I love the jokes about breaking the 4th wall, so I'd definitely enjoy that!
Another fantasy manga that I enjoy is this - https://mangasee123.com/manga/Yomi-no-Tsugai - written by Hiromu Arakawa, the mangaka who created Fullmetal Alchemist.

It's about American Football, right? That's as much as I kniw about it, but I'm not into Am Football so the premise isn't for me
You HAVE to give it a try! I couldn't care less about AmeFuto and I knew no rules at all when I started reading it. But it's one of my most favourite mangas ever and one of the rare ones that I may re-read from time to time. The characters are so colorful, the games are artistic but based on reality (except for the very last ones I'd say). I even watched youtube videos with "irl Eyeshield21 feats", and I still am not a fan of AmeFuto. I have my forum nickname thanks to Eyshield21! GO DEIMON DEVIL BATS!

If you like a "ragtag of misfits" trope, this manga is for you. It has some over-the-top character antics, but it's quite good as by the end of the manga you remember a lot of characters and can recognize them instantly in the crowd. I love how the main team realistically loses a lot in the beginning, and it loses also in one of the really important matches somewhere halfway through and it's quite unexpected because you get used to them winning. I love both Sena and Hiruma as characters. The ending might make you wish for more, but the epilogue is amazing.

At least give it a try, ok?

BTW, its writer also created Dr.Stone, so if you read it and liked the storytelling style, you might like Eyeshield 21. Personally, I prefer Eyeshield21 to Dr.Stone, even though Senku is like a nicer Hiruma and I enjoyed him reinventing all the science, I didn't like the reason for petrification and how it works.

and to get back to mangas I'd like to see in the future.... hmm. I've read probably close to 100 of various mangas, my current top list of ongoing mangas would have Sakamoto days, Dandadan, Spy x Family. So I like dynamic mangas with both comedy and serious plot, with a bit of mystery, sometimes supernatural powers can be nice, and I am really a sucker for good art. I don't care much about a setting, any setting can be described in an interesting way.

Damn, your enthusiasm might just push me to at least give the first volume a try

I read it first when I was 19 or something, I'm 35 now and I still enjoy it. If this is not a quality manga, then I don't know what is :)
If it's still not your cup of tea, though, it's fine, I know people have different tastes and sports manga is a genre on its own. I've read Slam Dunk and Power!! and arguably History Mightiest Disciple Kenichi is also sports manga (even though it's more about martial arts), so I kinda had a "sports manga" phase, but I liked Eyeshield21 the most.

I love the trope of the character"Youngster with intelligence far above normal, who builds technological gadgets by himself to use in his adventures.". Examples of this trope are Dexter and Jimmy Neutron.
I want a "science and technology" themed manga where the protagonist, supporting cast and villains are all characters that follow that trope. It would be a great change from these stories where intelligence is a irrelevant thing, and stupid characters get the better of smart characters.
The thing that i liked the most in One Punch Man is Child Emperor's fighting style, the backpack of technological utilities. It's a inventive and engrossing use of the trope. But as OPM is one of the manga series that i will never read, Child Emperor can't be a character in a story i like to follow. Therefore,if a manga like the one i'm describing starts in the future,i want this "backpack of technological utilities" idea to be used in many characters of this manga.

Isn't Dr. Stone somewhat similar to what you described?

Well, it depends how the story goes. I'm a little tired of "coming of age" kinda stories, plus I feel superhero fatigue, so right now it's difficult for me to imagine the scenario where I would enjoy such a character (and overall supporting cast). Most likely some sort of a detective story, or something more original, like Dr.Stone @The White Crane mentioned. I love intelligent characters, Sherlock Holmes is one of my favorites ever, although what you described here is more like Iron Man, the genius gadgeteer. I still would want to see something less combat-oriented, and more of a world building story :)

Yep, seems a good fit (and it's written by the same person who created Eyeshield21 btw 😸). I didn't like the ending very much, but other than that I liked the story a lot. Senku is amazing.

I think the ending is a fine. Like, a 7 out of 10. I wish the creators didn't rush the final arc, though.

It kinda reminds me of the The World God Only Knows, though. A great series with a rushed final arc (in TWGOK it was sadly due to the author's health), but with a nice ending all the same.

Yeah, I still rate it fairly high, so it's around 7/10, as you mentioned. But I had the same feeling with the Eyeshield21, it was very good, but the last arc wasn't the best, and the ending was saved by the epilogue imo. Still good, but could've been better imo.

Now that I think of it, it's an art - to finish the story at a great place and a great time, and most of the mangas I've read often don't have it 😔

I agree that Shounen mangas/animes mostly don't have srrong endings. Looking at it this way, stuffs like FMA, Code Geass, and Steins;Gate are the exceptions and not the rule.

Spy x Family to be weekly and not bi-weekly.:lumazed:
Source?

aye. At least it’s better than Marvel/DC rebooting their storylines so often that I get lost in what’s canon and what’s not.

I think it’s a wish, a response to the thread name. And yeah, I wouldn’t mind weekly releases as well :)
