Actually intellectual elitism is bad.

We don't need gatekeeping knowledge

The days of blindly following *experts* is gone. We should be skeptical and think for ourselves
While this sentiment is nice, it's not really realistic to expect everyone to have an informed opinion on everything. So an authority is required in most subjects - what does need to be made more explicit is that what the authority says is but one interpretation, and that it's not the total sum of a given subject. Nevertheless, I think some level of gatekeeping is required, as with most things it's a balancing act between two extremes. Reducing your idealised point of view into a simple, basic structure just lacks nuance.

what do you mean by gatekeeping?

Adhering to an authority figure within a discipline. To give a recent example, generally following scientific advice from established experts within a field. I know Covid may be a bad point to make this for, but it's more often than not harmful to go against the scientific consensus even if a healthy degree of scepticism is fine.

Facts are there. Verify for yourself
Dude.. You are the LAST PERSON here I want to trust with information, so no, I won't "verify by myself". I will look at sociological data about the conflict in India you guys are talking about when I have some motivation and I will see where the problem really is. But no, I won't look at a rando Qanon trying to make a link between a so called deep state, george Soros, Aung San Suu Kyi and power in India.. It would be completely stupid from my part.

Remember guys that noone is immune to propaganda.

I have a question tho, are you anti "Woke people" ?

A good skeptic doubt. A bad skeptic doubt too much.

i actually have you on my ignore list and i follow tejas lol
I'm not surprised

Back to the Wizard game where people tried gaslighting others into thinking buying a videogame meant aligning with the creators belief system 😂
Nobody did that if you go back in the thread. That's a lie :)

It's a nice sentiment, and hearing dissenting viewpoints is fine and all, assuming they're coming from accredited sources, but it's ultimately unrealistic to ask someone to educate themselves on every little thing. Sometimes, you do have to just follow the conventional wisdom - it's just pragmatic.
