Powers & Abilities Why don’t everyone eat devil fruits?

#3
Do they explain this further on?
Assuming this isn't a troll or alt, well ...........no they don't.

There are powers the author pulled mid way in the series called haki, that kinda equalize for not having devil fruits. But 99% of the cases there is no downside to eating a Devil Fruit, and haki can add onto devil fruit powers.
The initial worry that you won't be able to swim basically becomes a non factor later on when you realize 99% of the fights are on land.

Powerful Devil Fruits are kinda rare (rarest are Logia-types, I think), and those who have Devil Fruits don’t usually know how to utilize them to the best of their abilities. Haki is a good alternative for those who don’t have one, and you don’t lose the ability to swim.

If you watch the anime, you can learn more about them (or just read the One Piece wiki page if you don’t want to watch 1000+ episodes).

The manga is also 1000+ chapters long, but it definitely takes less time to read than to watch it. You’ll be missing out on some sick animation later in the series, but it’s not like you can’t find clips or watch the last 100 episodes of the anime.

Devil Fruits are very rare and very expensive, so basically:
- Some people don't want to lose the ability to swim
- Some people want specific Devil Fruit power
- Some people would prefer to sell them and get rich
- Most people wouldn't have the chance to eat a Devil Fruit

There are guys like Shanks, Mihawk, Roger, Oden, Rayleigh, Garp who have spent decades on the seas and have chosen not to eat one because they know haki trumps all.

There are people who look for a shortcut to power and for them devil fruit is the answer.
It still makes no sense.

Let's even say they just want to maintain their fighting style. There is no downside to eating a Zoan and fight the same way in hybrid. It's always a buff

I can even grant that haki contribution is higher. Even if DF provides just 10% buff, that alone is worthy enough to go for it

Idk, the people I listed are the strongest and they didn't think it was necessary while they had access to it.

Sure.

That doesn't contradict my point though. Even if buff provided by DF is say 10%, that is still a significant enough buff.

And when it comes to the most powerful DFs, that isn't even the case. I mean the buff is substantial.
With Marco's DF, Roger wouldn't have to worry about taking damage.
Base Luffy is at minimum a tier below his G4/G5.
Logia DFs in the hands of Roger, Mihawk, Shanks etc would at least jump them up a sub tier, if not a tier. Even if the DFs can't provide attack power comparable to advanced Conqueror's swordsmanship, the boost to CQC from the Logia would itself make a significant difference. At their levels of speed and observation haki, they would be doing Katakuri stuff. Same for any mythical zoan, just keep being swordsmen but with heightened speed and strength in hybrid.
Etc.

There is no practical reason they don't eat a good DF

Totally new to One Piece, didn’t know it existed before the Netflix show. I am liking it a lot. Could someone tell me why don’t everyone just eat devil fruits, since it give super powers? The sea water thing is enough of a reason not to eat them? (I have just watched 3 episodes.) Do they explain this further on?
because 1: they're rare and 2: losing the ability to swim isn't always worth it

If it wasn't worth it, 3/4 of the yonko and all admirals wouldn't be having it. It's obviously a significant buff

Sure, they are rare. But the top dogs of the series easily have enough resources and influence to get a good DF if they want.

You could have explained the devil fruit drawbacks without spoiling haki:pepeke:
