He dropped his guard to someone he knows for years. This could literally happened to anyone. This is like Kinemon talking to Luffy chilling and he randomly puts seastone cuffs on him.

He got tricked by someone who he thought was a friend. I’m not sure how that makes him look bad, nor how it’s evidence of the series “dipping,” as you stated in your other post.

Man, if you don’t understand without an explanation, you won’t understand it with one (that I’ve provided anyway). If he were as intimidating as his position implies, he’d be on his toes and ready to defend himself regardless of the situation. We don’t know all the details of their encounter, but the end result is that he got chained up, so he clearly wasn’t ready for anything.
