Plot. Kuma was not meant to die before he sees Bonney but Oda kept consistent that every person Akainu faces in real battle suffers mortal wounds.

Kinda inconsistent from Oda to do that while giving swordsmen only relatively shallow cuts. At this point people should've been dismembered regularly during fights, for instance BB should've been cut to half by what he ate from WB, kiddo should've been cut to half by Shanks'divine departure, apo should've been cut to half by shishisonson (one of zoro's most powerful moves, one that rekt metal bodied Mr one with CoA on toddler level experience)

He can't kill anybody (the only person he killed was Ace who had to sacrifice himself) , other than that he failed to kill Curiel, Kuma and WB with his attacks.

The only 2 people in the entire series to actually die on-screen were both essentially killed by Akainu and you say he can't kill anyone

He clearly was out to kill him and not capture him just by the fact he blew half of Kuma’s face. Akainu does seem to have bad accuracy tho I don’t mind it since he has the strongest offense in the story.
