Some of these rules may apply to her but Oda is the author here. He decides what he writes. If you want a story purely made up of tropes I suggest you dabble in ai writing.
The fact that there are rules isn't a problem for Oda and One Piece. Rules, tropes, patterns and archetypes don't make a story bad, they create constraints for the story and that those constraints that permits an author like Oda to be so creative.

In this cases, those 7 rules and 12 patterns permits Oda to create imaginatives and awesome characters.

Yo what happened to political discussion thread?

How did it work for carrot?
You thought a background character was gonna join

She is literally the only character in one piece that has sailed with the SH for a substancial amount of time for NO STORY PURPOSES, she's not a plot point like Ceasar or some of the scabbards, she's not a filler character and she's not a princess of the saga like Vivi or Momo /kinemon.

Oda MADE her on purpose, made her travel with the SH for 200 chapters and gave her some of the most SH centric moments you can have as a non SH ally. (volume covers/whole chapter dedicated/crew interactions/role) and then proceed to draw her in the big SH reunion with Jinbei while people were saying oda hated her.

Carrot's introduction was about being a Lookout, and then Oda had her become a Lookout on the Sunny for an entire arc, while having her mentor die and give her the will that ties directly to the strawhats. It's not hard to understand that it's basically confirmed that she's joining.

Carrot inherited Pedro's will. Pedro wanted to join the king of pirates and help him bring dawn to the world. Roger told him he's on the waiting list and he'll be back for him when he's a little bit older. Who is the new Roger? Who is the new Pedro?

Losing to Perospero is the exact reason for which I think she'll join the crew.
She was too weak to stop Perospero, the man who was responsible for her mentors death, and had to have the Current Ruler of Zou take care of him for her. So why would it make sense for her to willingly take a position she knows she can't live up to in comparison to the previous leaders?
Perospero tells her to go back to zou and at the same time she remembers Pedro's words telling her to go forward

During Chapter 1056, Neko had told Carrot she was dependable due to her adventures with Luffy and the others. This is Oda confirming Carrot had shown growth in her adventures with Luffy, but having her lose to Perospero in order to show she needs to grow. She knows she isn't strong enough yet hence her being completely against the Idea.

Oda then decides to confirm her taking Pedro's will.
Which on top of him wanting her to grow into a strong warrior at any cost, it was to travel with the pirate king and achieve the dawn of the new world. Pedro says to her the same words Roger said to him when he was young

Oda needed a reason to tell you why carrot was special, and give her a reason to join the crew. That happened in chapter 1056, with him confirming having taken Pedro's will, confirming she grew stronger with Luffy, but having her lose to Perospero in order to show she needs to grow. It's literally the perfect strawhat storyline.

So she fits for your made up rules.
Lol
Listen carefully.

Yes, those are rules that I created.

But I didn't created them for funzies. There is a reason behind each of those rules. The 7 rules are the BASIC things that are necessary for a character to become a strawhat.

Try it yourself. Try to reduce to the minimum the most important rule to create a strawhat and you will see, you will end up with the same result (and if you don't, share your result, I would be glad to add more rules to my list)

The 12 pillars are created on the same principles. The parameters are simple: What needs the story and what needs the character to create a strawhat.

Same, do the work, you will end up with the same principles.

kinemon also traveled with them, it means nothing not every character who travels with them out of convenience is gonna join the group even her being a lookout is nothing but headcanon since luffy never said they needed one.

it's true that Luffy isn't written by an author…
It's Oda who shows the need for a lookout, as recently as the beginning of egghead, when the crew was ambushed because no one was watching out for danger. It shows a need.

Oda established her from the start as a lookout.

and then on the ship.( WCI squad vs yonko crew btw)

so he showed they needed an underwater lookout who was supposed to see the shark?

so he needs a lookout because she can do what sanji can already do?
Hell even zeus can do that now
Sanji has to make several jumps to reach the heights, which takes longer. Oda introduced Carrot with all the skills a lookout can have for a reason.

where been Zeus when the shark was around, the same for Sanji and the rest of the crew. So it shows a need

This is a recurrent argument against Carrot but it's basically bland.

You don't ask Sanji to be a sniper or a doctor, so would you ask him to be a look out ?

The thing you don't realize is that Look out is not a hard job to do, but it can be improved GREATLY by Carrot's abilities.

- Jumping High means more kilometers on sight
- Floatings means that she can be usefull at this altitude for more than a simple jump
- She has no sleeping schedule meaning that she can be alert both night and day
- SHe has a great eyesight meaning that she can see better at a distance, this is improved by binoculars.

In short Carrot is perfectly built for the post. It would be ignorant to say that she isn't.
