General & Others What roles are the strawhats missing?

Just listing roles we’re technically missing from the strawhats
1. Ship guard

2. Pirate apprentice

3. Vice captain

4. Chief of Staff

We might not get any of the above but I do think it’s be cool. We know the helmsman position on a ship ever since Jaya and only got one decades later with Jinbe


As for who I want them to be
  1. Ship guard- “kuma”
  2. Pirate apprentice- hawk and snake
  3. Vice captain- usopp
  4. Chief of Staff- nami

They don’t need apprentice nor vice captain, but ship guards feels more important so that no one stays behind unless Oda would keep it as is where the ship is in no danger to be stolen or destroyed then the crew isn’t getting anything which is the case Oda isn’t adding anyone.

Technically they don’t really need anyone else to join tbh. Like even Jinbe’s helmsman role isn’t that important but oda would give him moments to make it feel like it is
If we do get more members they’d probably either be apprentices or ship guards tho. Ship guard obviously being a more useful role in general. As for the last 2 usopp and nami

How about a strategist like Kinemon, Bege , Pauli and Law, who at certaimes times in the past have made a strategy for the SHPs, but failed each time, because the crew did not adhere to it. The SHP need a very good tactican in their crew to get away from Eghhead, because as Saturn said: They are currently in a hopeless situation.

I don’t think tactician is an official crew role but Jinbe 100% fits
He’s pretty much the only dude capable of making plans made for luffy

The next role on the Sunny was referred to by Jinbe in chapter 979 as he is talking to Robin: "You folks are as lively as ever!! But when everyone is worked up about fighting, the key will be ... having someone who can calmly observe the state of the battle."

As "calmly observing" is in itself not really a job that would make sense to have in the crew, if it were the only thing the new SHP would need to do. However, it would make more sense, if the new SH would also strategize for the crew, while observing the state of the battle. This would make perfect sense.

It's Lucci - he will join. He is already strategizing for the crew.

Many find that Jinbe was talking about him here, although I do not think so. Well... I think it can be interpretational. 😊

Normally this is the point where I'm proposing a bet with the person I have a disagreement with in regards of who will join. I don't know, if I should propose it to you - may I?

(The wager would be one month of avi-change, for you in advance to know.)

All those roles are unnecessary, IMO. Zoro, Sanji, Jinbe and others can be ship guards, if the need comes. Pirate apprentices are also superfluous, most pirate crews don't have them. Luffy already has a first mate (Zoro, as he's the first to join the crew and the second strongest too), even if unofficially, and sometimes it's a role shared by others (Sanji, Jinbe), but there are some pirate crews without one (e.g.: Giant Warrior Pirates).

Last but not least, I didn't even remember "chief of staff" being used in a pirate crew. This role is just for big crews, I think... I don't see a problem of communication in such a small crew like the strawhats. (After doing a check, the known chiefs of staff, apart from Cabaji, are Sabo and Laffitte... members of big crews. Sabo's role is identical to a role of vice captain).

I don’t think mihawk himself would ever really join tbh. I do think s-hawk could potentially a fun addition as an apprentice tho

I’d rather know who you’re talking about before making a bet lol. If you want to talk about that it should probably be in the nakama thread tho

You could technically say that about most roles on the crew. Technically they can all fight, cook, navigate, sing, or helm the ship but oda still finds ways to make each role feel like it’s necessary. Like nobody thought having a helmsman is ever going to be useful since anyone can technically do it but not everyone can do it like Jinbe

Like you said cabaji was chief of staff. Also laffitte was chief of staff even when the Blackbeard pirates were just a group of 5. You don’t need a large group to have one

in egghead u can see zoro and brook being actual ship guards
and franky is the main guy to protect the ship too

- vice captain
basically zoro

chief of staff : idk the def of this

apprentices : arent really needed in a pirate ship

Usopp used to fix the ship before Franky joined as an actual shipwright. Your theory makes no sense, the lookout position is needed
