Questions & Mysteries Why is the Akatsuki so much better than any villain group in anime?

I can’t think of any villain group that really comes close to them. The Phantom Troupe is the closest I guess, but they’re a distant second since almost half of their members are kinda forgettable (who really cares about Franklin, Kortopi, or Bonolenov?). Why can’t any other anime come close to replicating the swag of the Akatsuki?

--Naruto is simply better than OP/HxH/Bleach for me so it isn't surprising it also has the best villain group.

--The fact that they did along well compared to other groups like espada or warlords or Twelve Kizuki makes their dynamic more interesting imo.
The biggest problem with the Warlords and Kizuki is that there's basically no group dynamic between them. The Warlords are just 7 strong pirates with no connection to each other. They basically never interact with each other. So even if all the Warlords are great characters, it's hard to say they're one of the best anime villain groups when there's basically no group dynamic

And even if that wasn't an issue for the Warlords, I'd still have the Akatsuki >> them tbh. Even someof the less interesting Akatsuki members (like Hidan) are more interesting characters than most of the Warlords. Hidan is a better character than Moria, Hancock, Weevil, and Mihawk

Any Espada is clear of fucking Kakuzu and Sasori.
Nah, Bleach powerscaling constantly undermines the most recently defeated antagonist via introducing someone much stronger than them. The moment an Espada is done with in the story, they look like trash compared to their peers.

The Akatsuki is much more consistent and carries a distinct risk. People die if they mess up against the Akatsuki, the Espada can’t take a life whatsoever.

You are not wrong.

It's been ages since I dabbled in anything Naruto, really, but when I think back on it - Yes.

Their characteristics, and fighting styles were all interesting and powerful, but even though they had their own individuality, one still perceived them as a joint unit.

Leaving some members unknown for a long time kept building hype and creating speculation about the rest of the members.

A whole lot of interesting than Orochimaru imo..

You have One Piece's "shichi bukai", but they were never really a cohesive unit with a singular purpose.

1. The Akatsuki were more relevant to the story. Unlike the Phantom troupe who were the main villains of one arc then become side characters afterwards, the Akatsuki were a constant presence and threat to Naruto and Sasuke.

2. The Akatsuki had a high level of threat with them. Sasori and Deidara kill Gaara, Hidan and Kakuzu kill Asuma, Pain killed Jiraiya. Early on it really felt like whoever fights the Akatsuki is being sent to be slaughtered

Dude straight up killed two important characters and dealt the biggest L the protagonist has taken so far.

Presence

Even 1 Akatsuki member is an overwhelming force. You never have them depicted as jobbers, even when they do fail. Unlike the Espada as an example, who are rarely built up before they die.
Hidan was not an "overwhelming force"

The rest I can see but I've always considered Hidan an outlier

Every other member of the Akatsuki is a 1 man army

Hidan only needs a couple of fairly skilled jonin with some intel to take him out
