Basically,they were the antagonists until the end of the Manga.Kishi built them in a way they were always the number 1 threat.I think the Kaguya twist was dog shit though...

Hidan was not an "overwhelming force"

The rest I can see but I've always considered Hidan an outlier

Every other member of the Akatsuki is a 1 man army

Hidan only needs a couple of fairly skilled jonin with some intel to take him out

Outnumbering Hidan 3 to 1, Asuma still ended up damaged and burned before he decapitated Hidan. His abilities are so dangerous that he becomes a key cog in their plan to defeat Kakuzu.

He’s not as powerful as the rest of the Akatsuki but Hidan’s presented as a repeated problem for every Shinobi he fights. Nobody besides the fandom looks at Hidan like a push over, he’s given as much credibility as his peers.

I actually think the Noah Clan, League of Villains and the Varia from KHR are better, but the Akatsuki are still better than most groups. The reason being they actually fulfilled the role of villains and were an actual threat which can‘t be said for most other groups.

Yes,of course.His ability would get most unprepared.But i think he just outloses against people that can spam strong genjutsu(Sasuke for example).

Every other member of the Akatsuki is more of a problem (not necessarily hax wise) than he is

I'm not saying he isn't strong. You'd still have to assemble a team of skilled shinobi to take him out

The difference is every other member of the Akatsuki would require a top/kage level ninja to beat and that still might not be enough

Kishi had a bad time planning intelligent fights with stronger powers. Most Shippuden fights aren’t as interesting as Part 2 fights and War Arc fights are full on super power shit with the barest rules hanging onto them.

I think kishimoto should have given him some ninjutsu to complete his CQC style.He was basically scyther+steal blood+ritual+stab himself.Too repetitive.

Probably because the Akatsuki were pretty much the main antagonists for 80% of the manga, the other groups are mostly just single arc antagonists and most of the time not even the primary ones at that.
