Controversial RELIGIONS & SPIRITUALITIES : Conversations

My points exactly. Meaning that if there are different kinds of Gods, we can't define "god". So god can't exist. There can be something, a creator of the universe with tromendus power, but it won't be "god".
Well no, it would just mean that some versions of god are wrong

I just wanted to compartiment a little bit the discussions for us not to derail on religion all the time in the political thread. But if you think this will be too much work, just end it. I'm okay with it either way.
Man just hates spirituality and doesn't want it in his leftist propaganda thread -- or the politics thread, same thing. :josad:

No, I just think we go too much out of context. I did the same for science. The political thread must stay politic. I think we can still speak about religion in it, but quoting verset or the Bible has nothing to do with politic.

I fear this world has fallen into spiritual decay. We have elevated sin to the level of virtue. We herald it as if it is righteous. It is not. Let it be anathema. We need to return to modesty, to truth and grace and humility. We should cast aside our pride -- and the hedonism -- of modernity, lest we bring about the downfall of our civilisation.

I believe we have become Gluttonous (obesity epidemic), Envious (social media obsession, a desire to change our physical bodies), Lascivious (OnlyFans and other forms of softcore pornography, and of course, hookup culture and extreme pornography), Prideful (it's literally celebrated), Wrathful (current social unrest, the demands for reperations, violent protests), Lazy (slothful in our desires to do as little as possible, to be indolent online and obsess over video games and other media), and Greedy (in our materialist nature, always needing the newest thing). These are all mainstays in the current zeitgeist -- in modernity.

I've heard people shirk off the idea of being giving, with arguments such as "what is in it for me," of being humble, through their ardent opposition to it.

Sin should be Anathema. We should not revere it.

You want to hear something really fucking pathetic?

The only reason I got interested in Judaism to begin with is because in high school I had this massive crush on this Jewish girl. She ultimately ended up dating a close friend of mine.

Now, 6 years later they’re still together and I had this realization a while back that I wished I was the one she fell in love with instead of him.

And so in my mentally ill brain, I had this idea that if I converted I could end up marrying someone who was in some way similar to my friend’s girlfriend.

After practicing Judaism for months, I’m enjoying the religion in of itself. I really loved Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. I love Jewish liturgy and I enjoy learning Hebrew on sundays. I moved to a new city for my job and basically all my friends there are people I met through various Jewish organizations.

Although I have big reservations about the state of Israel, I guess ultimately it worked out.

How far into the process of conversion are you?

I'm completely oblivious to the conversion process btw, but I saw you mention it takes quite a long time.

Well I’m joining the most liberal sect, Reform Judaism.

So what me and my rabbi talked about was just living through one cycle of the holidays and seeing if it was a good fit. I also sit down and talk to him once every few weeks.

Gotcha
Where there any community get togethers near you for the two holidays you mentioned?
Something where you could meet and interact with other Jews from the same city/neighbourhood?

I started in the summer. Guess I’ll be complete by summer of 2024.

Then I’ll just need to get the penis surgery and go in front of the Beit Din(Jewish court), do the mikvah(baptism), and that’ll be it.

Yeah there are two synagogues about 5 minutes away from me.

On Yom Kippur I basically spent the entire day there
