Now, it just feels like a retcon of design. What will the anime team do?!

It will still feel sloppy. Sometimes it is just not necessary to be scientifically accurate. Nobody is going to care if Oda gets some scientific details wrong (specially for animals that existed 65-250 million years ago).

I didn't know that. But since I do now, this is my response.

I just reread the manga. The anime (episode 930) adopted from the manga chapter 935-936 which is Queen and Luffy interaction in Udon Prison.
and also Nami-Robin bath tub scene

But, in the end of chapter 936 we see Gyukimaru and Zoro in the Oihagi Bridge.
So i assume next Sunday (930) or the next week (931) we will see Gyukimaru vs Zoro.
