For what I understood the kid had a disease that was incurable, the kid was dying and keeping her alive would only prolong her pain.
The doctors decided to let her die in peace and remove the life-support. The parents disagreed. This went to courts where they decided to follow the doctors decision. The parents are in pain because of that.

Mitochondrial disease if treated properly , not "cured" because that sort of impossible , but if treated with care and medication can survive up to 7 years. She was just 8 months old.
To be honest,as a lawyer, I don't think her case would be this simple. Since this would be something that the courts would have to decide and even a lawman, let alone a lawyer, should put this information on the table. Notice how it was noted that she was dying and in pain and the only the parents seemed to disagree. I personally don't doubt that this issue was brought by the parent's lawyer and, after the case was reviewed by different doctors, that she was one of the cases where treatment would not be effective ''long term'' since this was not even mentioned at the time.
