I'm surely in the minority on these boards but it's kind of fascinating to see people care about the Roman empire in the same way as soccer or the metric system. Like it's not just a big deal to "other people" in different times or places but just outright a big deal. When it comes to the Roman empire I have a handful of Caesar jokes and that's pretty much it.

Treating rome like some sort of perfect utopia is stupid.
The only history that survived is likely state enforced propaganda given the militaristic nature of the empire.
Rome was ahead of every wester civilization at its time, i am the first ot say this.
But treting like a legendary golden age is dangerous.
No soap,toilet paper,tooth paste,air conditioning,heater,refrigerator and so on.The average Joe lives better(materially wise) than an Emperor or King would back in those times.
