Sengoku didn't kill Luffy.

Then kicked her towards a laser barrier that had a very good chance of killing her if Sentomaru didn’t save her.

The party didn’t change anything.

We knew that Kizaru was fond of Vegapunk, Bonney, Sentomaru. Because Kizaru had told us this.

We have also seen that Kizaru has beaten the shit out of Sentomaru, tried to kill Vegapunk and kicked Bonney into a laser barrier of death (which I am not really taking as “trying not to harm her too much”. And this was all pre-Saturn appearing in person on Egghead, which I don’t think Kizaru expected based on his reaction to Saturn appearing.

Kizaru is coming off as someone who may not enjoy what he is doing- but he’s still doing it. And again, he started before Saturn appeared on Egghead.

So it’s very hard to square up all of Kizaru’s actions before this chapter to him suddenly deciding he needs to help Luffy. It can be done, but I don’t think it’s very consistent writing.
