Break Week What made Egg Head the best arc of PTS?

#1
Good Morning fellow members of WG.

I have a simple question for you guys, what has changed?
Going through Dressrosa, which was decent, Zou was ok, WCI and Wano, the last one mostly bad, I remain shocked by the quality change that we are reading since the end of Wano.
In 50 chapters we had more plot developments, cool moments, reveals and just in general good pacing than in the previous 150, to say a number.
What has changed?
How can the same author have such different outcomes in writing the same comic?

My personal opinion is that, similar to what GRM for Game of Thrones, with Wano Oda wrote himself into a "corner", but this doesn't explain the horrendous pacing of the first half of Wano.

Hasn't Oda said that since we entered the last saga, he can't do anymore, what he wants, like in Wano? And I think I heard that Oda had planned the ending of One Piece since the beginning, changed maybe a few minor things. But the overall outcome remained.

Maybe Wano was the last arc, he could to do free writing, without having to stick to self-imposed giudelines-plotwise - and he enjoyed that maybe to the fullest. :kayneshrug:

That'als a nice perspective.
You can clearly tell that it is always Oda, but read a random Wano chapter, hell, even compare Oden flashback to Kuma's.
Seems written by two different people almost.

Maybe because Oda now needs to rely more on the work of his editors? It would make at least sense in a way, seeing that he as a mangaka now stands before that monstrocity of a story with dozens (or hundrets - I'm really not sure) of open plot-strands, which he needs to adress in this last saga. And if he makes a mistake, we readers would surely notice this.

And maybe it is this work/interference of his editors, reviewing every little detail that makes the arc so different?

But maybe it is just the difference in Oda's age that makes both arcs feel so different. If I think about it: When I was younger, I planned things differently, as I do it now. And Oda had the end of One Piece already planned out, when he was very young.

Wano on the other hand ... I do not even know, when he planned Wano in the first place. But he must have been older... .
So, maybe it is this age gap? :quest:

cause this is the final saga lol
if oda wont flesh out mysterious characters now then when will he ?

everyone has been waiting for characters to finally show what they are capable of
and we see that in egghead

Oda wants to finish the story

and that desire is giving him focus and improving the pacing of Egghead greatly

he also had 2 month-long breaks in the last two years, which gave him the ability to think forward about the chapters coming

If this was Wano, Oda would go in-depth about each member of Bonney's crew in the flashback

explore so many more side characters in the Revolutionaries

add a bunch of random side characters in Egghead that work alongside Vegapunk

Oda just seems focused on ending the story and is cutting the useless fat

Because oda actually had Egghead planned and cares about the characters in it. Wano was basically filler. As oda said, you can Starr the manga from egghead onwards.

And that’s clearly the case as:
1. Oda focused heavily on plot progression with inclusion of external chapters that expand the world and show the movement of all major characters
2. The characters in egghead have been written phenomenally and even initial things that seemed random like the Vegapunk dupes were well explained
3. Finally, odas not lengthening or shortening this arc excessively. Egghead has flowed super well; it’s not a short arc; but it doesn’t feel half as stretched out as wano and dressrosa were.

It’s the best because of all the arcs post timeskip this one feels the most deliberate where everything is important and well expanded.

Well for me

1. 4 of my top 5 favorite characters show up
2. Lots of fights and match ups
3. Lots of lore and world building
4. Met tons of fun new characters like the vegapunks, sword and Doll
5. A pretty good flashback that almost made me stop cheering for WG
6. I enjoyed the who done it murder mystery thing they had going on in first half of egghead it was fun wish they didn't skip past it
7. Gorosei powers revealed!

With detective Conan they would have solved the case faster:milaugh:

I don't know if you mean this as a jest, but starting One Piece from Egghead what would you even understand?
You owuldn't know who Vega is, Kuma, Bonney, the crew, Lucci the Marines, the WG, any flashback would be meaningless.
I know this forum IQ is around 90, but this is pushing it.

On Wano being basically filler I literally have nothing to say because it just compliment this shitty take of starting One Piece from Egghead.

And Oda clearly meant that it's the end and it's time to discover what the One Piece is, you know, the title of the opera.
