Nope.. Each characters are incomplete without one another.. The fact that there is a designated front runner is utterly irrelevant in this story.. Nika is no better than any other Strawhat crew as a character..

That's what a main character is. I don't care about whatever random thing you're saying, a main character is a literal thing that has a definition and by definition Luffy is the MC.

The problem is this:

Oda parades the entire Straw Hat crew as the main cast, which is pretty much irrefutable, but then the only characters besides Lu/ffy who get proper focus & development besides Lu/ffy are the characters who just endlessly worship him and whose entire character arcs revolve around him.

Is that not a valid criticism? For some reason, you guys just write off any complaint that involves Nika as "well too bad, he's the MC." Everyone knows that. Everyone expects Lu/ffy to be the one to defeat the biggest villains, to have the most panel-time, and to have the most focus.

All it would take is replacing a few extra panels of people running around doing nothing or the 200 *shocked face* reactions we get

I'm not writing off any complaint with him being the MC, just the specific complaint that the MC gets too much focuse. I find that to be a deeply stupid and worthless critique. If you have problems with how other characters are portrayed or how the story is playing out then that's valid

I don't even mind the excessive goofiness of Gear 5, but Nika doing the nika pose while Vegapunk has been critically injured... like really? What was even the point of him trying to protect VP in the first place?

Hell wano is the biggest offender of this, and I’m not talking about ZKK, I’m talking about Ryuma. Oda connected Ryuma to Zoros aesthetics and even had Zoro destroy a dragon in Onigashima, however here comes one of the worst quotes wver about:

“He’s a warrior of the name Joyboy! But he’s already left the country. I wish I could’ve met him, a hero on par with the legendary Ryuma!”

This was a comparison fans of Zoro were waiting for for years; but oda gave it to Nika. Simply saying “he’s the protagonist” isn’t excusing this.

This is my biggest complain
I like what Nika represents and yes, Luffy is the MC but he became the whole focus of this story
Everything is somehow tied to him and some SHC members get less screen time than some useless side characters

I actually agree with that. Ive said it before that Zoro should have done more on wano than just fight, it was a fuckup on Oda's end to not let him get that parallel or show him visiting the grave. Its not perfect and other characters can get more, but I dont think the scale is as skewed as some people make it out.

Egghead became mid once we started focusing on the SHs.

The good parts of egghead were all the non SH stuff.

Garp and SWORD vs BBP
Reverie
I’d even put the Kuma flashback in this category

But the main story is just fucking mid. Piss pacing, constant asspulls, no real tension.

What straw hats are getting focus? Everything has been about Kuma, Bonney, Saturn, Kizaru and Luffy

Im not going to lie I expect Elbaf to have lots of nika lore and focus, I just really really hope that Usopp gets to play a major part in some way during it. If not thats going to be a huge fuckup considering how much Usopp cares about going there

Like I will always say, narrative determines the powerscaling and not the other way around.

The narrative can determine the power level. The scaling is done by us. And I don’t use Marineford to powerscale anyone anymore. A lot of the characters have grown stronger since then or are not shown at all. But that is me. And I never understood this powerscaling in one piece to be honest. Unlike other anime one piece has never been if X is stronger than Y and Y is stronger than Z, that means X is stronger than Z. It is matchups, knowledge, adaptability, skills all this play a role. And most importantly it is determination. When the strawhats are determined they get like 150% power boost and straight on the next island they loose it.
