All Oda needs to do is moderate the tone and people will stop complaining. Gear 5 as a power is perfect for Nika but if it continues to be written in the same manner than we'll never have those character shift moments where Nika becomes deathly serious. But if he does it with Gear 5 it'll be more intense as it will catch most people off guard. When Joyboy isn't smiling anymore it's ten times scarier than if Nika stopped smiling. The freedom that Gear 5 gives Nika in combat opens up possibilities for more brutal looking techniques, which can accompany that character shift. Let's just hope Oda has something like that in mind.

I think that is going to happen eventually, there will be moments where even Lu.ffy in Gear 5 wont be laughing, but as of now i don't like it, it minimizes the impact of scenes that shouldn't be treated that way and it's goofiness is completely out of proportions

If want to say they did more stuff back Pre TS then that would be wrong if you calling them lackeys .
In wano they did as much as they used to do in pre time skip arcs.
Issues is they had share panel time with loads of other characters which eating up time and make things seem longer .
Which is a issues for people so i get it .

The Straw Hats not including Luffy most definitely got more characterization and moments in the Pre-TS, primarily by the virtue of their characters needing to be established in their introduction arcs, but even beyond that, like Nami's navigation and guts being the prinary reason they didn't die on their way to Sjypiea, or the Ussop stuff in Wayer 7 and Enies Lobby, or Franky burning the blueprints. This alone proves that the Straw Hats barring Luffy contributed much more to the story before the timeskip than they do now.
