There have been gravekeeper tops at regional levels. One guy came runner up in the regional for my area last year. Not sure it's done better than top 16 at YCS's or Nationals though
Did i say Dragon Rulers was the best deck?NO. I dropped the game during that format, but returned during HAT format. Dropped again during Nekroz was released. I havent touched the game since, but from the footage i see. The game is even more degenerate now. Btw,that Corey Mcduffie due passed away. RIP.
Yup, now try and figure out how it works and see if it's the game being degenerate or simply a higher skill level now than previously
Yeah it was an OD I think :(
And yeah i won't deny there's some degeneracy. I don't like Kashtira or Eldlich strats but most other strats nowadays are far more skill intensive. The closest thing to formulaic non-think decks I can think of is earth-machine and that's done nothing for like 2 years.
The game has always had some degenerate strategies (but again, name one TCG which hasn't). We had clown control. Then Chaos. Then Chaos emperor. Then we had Yata locks. That's in one year. All winning YCS/Worlds and nationals, all degenerate bullshit. In the early GX era.
Never said it's a you issue, just that I think your complaints are misplaced and would most definitely be less significant if you actually gave the modern game some time and energy to learn; as with any game (THIS is the you-issue). It is far from what you have been saying it is.
You'd love Labrynth and Dinomorphia decks - go look at the cards and watch how they play - maybe even some deck breakdowns. I love Dinomorphia it's very unique. You halve your lifepoints every time you do anything but the less LP you have the stronger you are (and obviously the more at risk you are). Dinosaur/Power Rangers themed Fusion/Trap deck. It's fucking cool and only 1 card in the deck is even slightly expensive.
It's never won top tournaments but has consistently had 1 or 2 in the top 32s at regionals and nationals.

I think it's very well explained too - not from a perspective of re-learning the game but just to see that this Deck is probably your thing so if you ever do come back to it or are tempted to, it's a good starting point! There's also more tech cards than this guy talks about as Dinos have had some pretty fun cards recently in the Transcendosaurus achetype.

As someone who attends these monthly, again completely wrong. Legit nobody plays anything meta except that one dude. People go to locals to test joke decks and have fun mostly - last month I played a guy who's entire strategy was to give me penis-innuendo named monsters on my board so I couldn't summon my own and then just tell me he 'gave me the D' then scoop. Monsters like Little D, Dig Beak, Raging Earth etc.

A Horus-Engine summoned skull is cool! Not exactly the best card but a good removal option
That Yubel card is nasty - if it was a low level/free special main deck monster it could probably push the new Yubel decks into the lower end of top tier!
