Kizaru shot a laser at exactly the same diameter as the hole in Vegapunk, cauterizing his wound and preventing farther blood loss. This is the exact same thing Aokiji did to Garp. So it looks like Kizaru chose a side cause he could have easily opened a second lethal hole in Vegapunk!

But let's be honest, he only managed to kill Vegapunk after Saturn took his attention of Luffy, without Saturn around would Kizaru have been able to kill Vegapunk? I highly doubt it.

In summary:
This only happened because Luffy was busy with Saturn, the fact that Sanji moved Vegapunk was already a high risk for his life, and Saturn did part of the work in killing Vegapunk.

Of course Oda ended on a cliffhanger! Next chapter better start with Vegapunk revealing the truth!

I really thought Sanji would clash more with Kizaru, but Oda really did him dirty. He couldn’t even have Sanji escape with Vegapunk without getting clowned. Vegapunk was already seriously injured. We didn’t need to injure him again.

I also love the Shonen Jump cover of gear 5 Luffy!

After this chapter I am 100% sure Vegapunk is going to survive. We always know when a character is going to die and there are no signs that Vegapunk, even with this wound, is going to die. If he were to die, he would have in this chapter and then Sanji and a very pissed off Luffy would be fighting Kizaru and Saturn together.
