The Last Airbender (2024 Series)

A place to discuss, praise, shit on, and otherwise give our thoughts on the Live Action adaptation of Avatar The Last Airbender

My thoughts on the first two episodes:

I like:
The bending - overall really well done. Waterbending looks unimpactful so far tho.
The scenery - beautiful and I like that they expaned on it a bit, like Kyoshi's shrine in Episode 2
Prince Zuko - so far, from the og characters, I like his performance the most

What I dislike:
Changing story beats - I feel like Aang running away wasn't done well at all. Same for the Sokka-Katara dynamic - an unnecessary change to Sokka's character in particular that only takes away from what made him a fan favorite in the original series. Exposition Gran Gran was also done really bad, especially the way she revealed Aang was the Avatar.
Young actors - a lot of wooden acting. The way lines that are supposed to be impactful are delivered makes those scenes not weigh as much if at all (most Aang-Katara-Sokka scenes tbh)
Uncle Iroh buffoonery - Bruh, I know he's a goofball in the og, but saying "We're looking for maps to find shark squid" to Zhao is some D&D level writing. And I feel like his Jasmine Tea gag will be overdone to hell and back.

Post automatically merged:

The creators of the show left the project because they didn't like what their show was being changed into. That's telling enough
worse is that they left halfway through the production of the live action, and all of the interviews coming out the last week basically implying that the core of what ATLA successful was going to fundamentally changed

Bland visuals? The visuals look honestly amazing but they are right about the writing they are skipping arcs or rearranging key moments etc etc

Just finished binging and here's my final verdict

The best aspect of this series is the visuals the affects and custome designs are perfect where it fails is

The choreography is sluggish usually when a series is set to have hand to hand combat the actors go through months of combat training to prepare for the role this felt like they just saw a technique and tried it out right before filming

Another thing that I don't like an keeps the series from reaching a 7 is how they either change, rearrange or straight up delete arcs from the original series

Overall it's Decent and I'd recommend watching it but it has no rewatch value imo

Final score 6.5/10

Episode 3:
Liked:
Omashu looks great, as does Jet

Disliked:
The Mechanist plotline was something I disliked even in the animated show, and here it's even more annyoing and disjointed. Why combine it with Omashu?
Zuko and Zhao working together? What?
On the topic of Zhao, I don't feel his actor at all.
The mechanist just being a traitor out in the open, and the subsequent chase scene are reaaaaaalllyyyy bad. Good Lord lmaoo
The fight coreography so far was a let down

What a mess of a storyline, 2-3710 is generous for this episode
