Danzo's whole role is literally manipulating this because of his own twisted vision of leading Konoha, Itachi just went along with it. It only escalated because Hiruzen's efforts were shut down. Realistically the actual threat makes no sense, Hiruzen cannot handle all the Uchiha.

The only reason Danzo manipulated Itachi into it was because he was the best person for the job. Anyone else would have been shit at it.

If he was selfish he would beg Luffy to save him like Sanji did for Robin.

Ace specifically told Luffy gtfo during Marineford because he had his own crew. Then he even told his own crew why did they come anyways he wasn't even asking WB pirates to save him, he even asked Garp to kill him before.

Luffy was selfish for disrespecting Ace's own adventure and interfering WB pirates own business.
