I don’t get why people are so invested in this idea of Oda throwing away a character that he’s been building for the past 500 chapters, as opposed to actually doing something with him that makes him interesting or likeable.
Kid dying in 1079 or being written out of the story would be bad writing.
If there was no point in Kid’s character then he shouldn’t have been created to begin with.
But all evidence tbh shows that he still has a role. Because Kid was never treated as Luffy’s serious rival, he was always treated as an ally. One of his greatest allies in fact.
1) they allied in sabaody
2) they allied in wano
They’re probably going to ally in elbaf and the final war. Kid’s character arc is about him learning to accept his weaknesses and make allies. In wano he wanted to kill Kaido and take all the credit, only for him to leave Kaido to Luffy and go after BM, which he begrudgingly used teamwork with law to beat.
The completion of this character arc is Kid accepting Luffy as pirate king and offering to help him destroy the WG.
And you can say that “destroys his character”, but it really doesn’t because that’s literally what his entire arc was building up to ever since he allied with Luffy in sabaody.
It’s literally just like how Shiki acknowledged Roger as PK and attacked marineford when he learned Roger got “captured”.
