My theory is that the devil fruits originated in a time of trouble (maybe the Void Century) and Nika created them to grant people freedom through their dreams.

I get your point, but we're in the endgame now; an explanation like that is nice like halfway through the story. Problem is, there's still a gajillion questions to answer in this story, not to mention all the characters we'd love to see evolve from a plank of wood to maybe half a vegetable-person (like half of the Straw Hats).
I don't know how Oda expects this manga to end within 10 years if he's just going to pile up more questions every time he reveals 1/10th of a lore detail.

I too think teach is before Imu. Right now luffy doesn't know or care about nika. teach believes to be the chosen one, if we extend that to nika i bet he's soon going to start to say he's the true nika. and by facing him luffy will have to face the true nature of his power and either accept it or deny.
I mean the dreams part isn't really a theory anymore, those are just good explanations for what the dreams would be for those weird fruits. And I don't doubt Oda will have good explanations if and when he covers that.
I like the reveal because I think it's very fitting for the themes of the story and how it works with haki and Nika. I think that chapter could've probably presented it better instead of putting it over the Lucci fight, but that's a separate issue.

Why Oda would hype Teach by using Imu and Saturn if Teach won't play a role in Imu's fall? Thats retarded lmao. He could hype him in different ways, Teach is a key figure just like Luffy in Imu's fall. As well as other 2 Emperors will play roles, Cross Guild is literally Anti Marine already.
