Oda's way of handling Sanji's character arc really stands out

Im not so sure about Evil Sanji anymore like i used to be, but its surely a possibility, Oda can follow very different routes here..

Sanji asking Zoro to kill him and Zoro getting excited about it seems to be way more important than just a moment between the wings

He knows there are things he can only trust Zoro to do and no one else, not only because of strength, but also mindset

Zoro showed excitement at doing it. "At least i have something to look forward after this", he is literally lowballing King who is attacking him while he talks, and acting like going to deal with Sanji is something worth of his time.

By the end, Zoro was done after beating King even when he overstimated himself acting with excitement towards Sanji's wish, while Sanji also didn't even lost control of himself, both just fainted, and Zoro only woke up 1 week later.

It's similar, although different (because there is nothing close to Zoro and Sanji's dynamic in the crew) from when Luffy hypes one of his crewmates, it tells he has deep trusts in their overall capabilities.
