"Kid is so arrogant why didn't he learn his lesson the first time", it is clear that Kid haters are completely detached from reality and have no idea what its like and what is required to seriously compete in a sport and succeed. Look at all the real life UFC fighters and boxers. They are all like Kid. They are determined and ambitious, but are also arrogant, boisterous and have a bit of an ego. That is what real life competitors are like. You think after they lose a fight/match they just give up? No, they call out the person right after demanding a rematch, believing they can win the next time. They retain their confidence. That is a fighters/sportsman mentality. Personality doesn't win people fights. The people in real life with Luffy's and Shanks personalities aren't winning anything. These people are those who sucked at sport as a kid and kept getting outperformed by people like Eustass Kid. Then those people started watching animes to watch characters with their personalities succeed in a fictional world.
In real life, all shanks personality people have Oda's fat physique (Oda has shanks personality after all). So it's not surprising that the majority of this fanbase hates Kid. It is an anime fandom after all.
This is not real life, this is a story, its happenings and whereabouts are written with the purpose of have certain meaning and teachings.
Real life events also can have teachings/meanings, but when they do is because we can make by ourself a teaching out of them.
Being arrogant and being confident are two entire different things. Most fighters are rightfully confident in their skills because of the constant training they do. They eventually can sound arrogant, but is often due to marketing reason.
And dont forget that most of the times, when a fighter asks a rematch after he just lost, blaming the ref, saying the opponent cheated, saying the scorecards are wrong and in reality he had won, etc., he loses the rematch too, often in a worse manner than the precedent.
UFC, boxer, and fighting sports are individualistic sport, therefore there is a lot of individualism mentality in it.
While One Piece also has a lot of invidualism in it because is a japanese product, but as a story it holds lot of altruistic valor and teachings. Is still a story about friendship and about helping the oppressed.
Shanks wins because he is protecting the people of the island and of his crew.
Kidd loses because he wanted to attack and ravage, to retaliate what happened to him the last time, only for his own individualistic desire of success and vengeance.
IS THAT SIMPLE.
The valors you are looking for, about being arrogant and competitive are not the one highlighted in One Piece.
With that being said, the problem is not about this, but is about the role some of you tried to force Kidd into, a role he never fit in.
I have nothing against Kidd, let alone against being a fan of him. But he was written just to be another Luffy's rival that eventually fail, not a main rival to reach PK title, relevant plot-wise since the start, who are Shanks and Blackbeard (and Buggy as comic relief).
Let me ask you a question: if you have to shoot a 2:30 hr movie about the whole story told in One Piece, so you need to do make a very short summary of it, you hire an actor to give him Kidd role? Is there any space for him?
