Reading @TheKnightOfTheSea 's post about possibility of both of them being connected to Wano have me thinking. Probably what happened between Shiryu and Fujitora is similar to what happened between Blackbeard and Whitebeard.

Both Blackbeard and Whitebeard belonged in same crew.
Both Shiryu and Fujitora belonged in same dojo or samurai army in Wano country.

Blackbeard killed Thatch to get Yami Yami, then ran away from the crew.
Shiryu killed the whole dojo in sadistic way (he was locked in Impel Down for similar reason) bar Fujitora who was away, to get Raiu, then ran away from Wano country.
Fujitora came back and saw what happened to his comrades (and the sad condition of their dead bodies) then blinded himself.

Maybe stretch but the reason Fujitora wanted to disband Shichibukai was related to this. He doesn't want evil person working for Government, like Shiryu who was working in Impel Down. Teach, Shiryu's current boss was also part of Shichibukai.

For ending, we know the end result to what happened to Whitebeard and Blackbeard at Marineford.
But in case Oda reading this and changes what's already in his mind for sake of being unpredictable, I will stop here.

I think the possibility of Fujitora and Shiryuu being DIRECTLY from Wano is fairly low. But descendants similar to Koushiro? that's certainly possible, since we have no idea who all escaped Wano with Kuina's grandad. One can assume others went different direction.

Nice theory but you forgot to mention Raiu is a supreme grade

Shiryu saw Blackbeard in Impel Down and quickly sensed he is the man similar to himself. That's why he bet on saving Teach and gave him antidote.

Why not? We haven't known the reason Fujitora blinded himself, and the culprit is running low.
Shiryu might be the good culprit here.

not a bad theory, but I think it's more likely that Issho's friends/loved ones were a victim of a pirate that would later become a warlord.

That's what makes sense to me, and I agree that it's unlikely they're both from Wano. Issho likely is because his sword was forged fairly recently, but I can see Shiryu being the descendent of people who left Wano in the past and maybe they brought the sword with them

That's Zephyr's backstory. And we already know all of the Warlords..
"Disbanding current Warlord because the past Warlord is my enemy" -> well Teach which is Shiryu's captain was also past Warlord.

I thought about it before. I believe both are from Wano, but I couldn't really make any connection between them. If Shiryu was a shichibukai, there was a chance. But who knows, its Oda's story - he could cook whatever he wants.

Yamato's cover story leads to some Blackbeard Pirates including Shiryu comes to Wano for Pluton, same way they invaded WCI for Pudding.
