Starting to wonder if there were Ancient Machines predating Pluton, Uranus, and Poseidon they were based off of.

Predating Ancient Kingdom? I don't see any hints or foreshadowing at the world ending many times and then rising technologically again.

Anything older would have been prototypes.

They were at a technological peak. Nika DF would be the top achievement, where they reach the technological singularity.

But Oda could go either way with the plot, such as portal to another dimension, the demon realm or god realms. From there the ancient kingdom was perhaps asked by the Imu and his demons to cooperate into locking up Nika into a Devil Fruit? Why else is it a DF why else does it look like the Gorosei are literal demons and not DF users?

What happened to Imu at the end subtly implies that the Elders are not mythical zoans but are extension of whatever power he possessed. I mean, the one directly hit by Joyboy's haki were the Elders and yet, he's the one who suffered the recoil.

He was just shocked by the fact that he sensed the presence of a guy he killed 900 years ago

I was considering the possibility of Imu being an orochi type character, but it doesn’t make sense.

Imu is the opposite of Orochi. While orochi is something of a figurehead, with Kaido pulling the strings, Imu is in the shadows with the world believing the gorosei are the rulers of the world.

If Imu isn’t strong then there’s no way he could rule the world from the shadows. Dude probably killed Joyboy, meaning he’s likely top 1.

No, joyboy is not that tall in the flashback and the straw hat doesn’t look giant sized
