I don't know about all that, but I don't think anyone doubts Shiryu is lethal or will disappoint offensively.
The issue is when Garp was fighting Kuzan and the rest, Oda could not even manage to draw Shiryu just straight up attacking Garp, Shiryu felt the need to attack Coby, that's the only way he could have a say in the fight.
Initially I expected Shiryu to cheapshot Garp while he was focused on Kuzan, the actual outcome is a lot worse for his combat abilities, not only was Garp able to detect him, but Shiryu had to go through Coby when he already had an island and number advantage.

I'm fine with BB pirates fighting as dirty as possible, but in this case neither the narrative or tactics would be all that affected if Shiryu simply cheapshotted Garp, and then got removed from the fight, same as in canon.
It would be perfectly in line with BB pirates style, while not undermining Shiryu's df and combat ability for no real reason. Him going through Coby to get to an already busy Garp while his invisibility was detected is just not the best look, especially since it didn't need to happen.
Ofcourse though BB pirates are still growing so maybe he will be awakened.

It ain't gonna be a good look if BB becomes the strongest pirate ever and Shiryu on the other hand won't be "that much" of a monster. It makes little sense. I see why folks have their doubts on Shiryu but at the end of the day, at least at his peak, he should be an absolute freak. As far as I'm concerned, that Shiryu should even be stronger than guys like Oden. Oda don't lowball him💀
Could be last episode that killed it for me, but I think Garp's entire landing was far too padded out. The anime adds so many bitch lines to Koby too, making him doubt himself for 5 min straight.
I expected more of a filler fight this ep based on how everyone talked it up. There was some flashy shit but nothing that exciting

Huh? There was tons of filler added this ep.
Besides, the chapter being animated didn't even need anything added to it, it is by far eggheads single best chapter, with the most content. Them adding those extra scenes was just a bonus, and yet they lowkey stole the show.
